Sueharu Maru likes Shirokusa Kachi; but Kachi, a beautiful, smart, athletic girl (and already a published author) is going out with Atsushi Abe, a handsome teenage actor. Kuroha Shida, a girl Sueharu has known since they were children and who 'looks out for him' (and who wouldn't mind being his girlfriend herself) proposes that they work together to sabotage the romance between Kachi and Abe.

(One episode watched):

As I wrote the synopsis above, the thought occurred to me that this might just be an amusing situation. But that thought never really occurred to me while watching the episode itself. It was quite unfunny--I don't think I LOL'd even once. The show seemed somewhat ostentatious to be claiming to be a 'Romcom' (Romantic Comedy) when it couldn't even do that. Nor are the characters interesting. We are presented with a fairly complex network of characters, and told who likes who and so forth, but nobody really seemed all that memorable. Kachi and Abe haven't done anything wrong that would even partially justify an attempt to screw with their romance (maybe that was intentional) and Sueharu and Kuroha don't really have any excuse for what they are trying to do. I don't hate them, since this show has a sort of a goofy tone to it, but I don't like them either. First create interesting characters, then compose jokes and a plot. It looks like Kuroha is more interested in getting Sueharu to fall in love with her than to facilitate his romance with Kachi, but both are so bland that I can't care how it works out. With the jokes and characters as weak as they are, this show needed a truly original and surprising twist to breath some life into it, but nothing of the sort is revealed before episode one ends (I was already impatient for it to be over when the mid-episode station break occurred). With as many good new shows as there are this season (Spring 2021), I don't have time to fool with this one.
