(One episode watched):

Another alternate world which operates according to the rules of a typical sword and sorcery video game--there may be enough of these to justify a new keyword. This show did not strike me as particularly novel; on the contrary, it seemed fairly predictable and stereotypical. The plot elements of modern day Japanese citizens transported to a RPG-like world, great (and very convenient) potential as magic users, some shadowy evil organization--all of these have been used numerous times before. The thought occurred to me that I wish somebody would make an anime about a magic-capable adventurer who is somehow transported to our world--that would be unusual. Also typical was the opening scene where the main characters demonstrate just how awesome they are by beating up on ordinary soldiers on a battlefield. I was wishing that just for once one of these guys would do something like throw his sword at his magician opponent and catch the person unprepared before the magician could cast a spell. I also noticed that for all the mayhem this show was skirting around the issue of death and graphic violence, perhaps because the main characters wouldn't look so awesome if the full implications of what they were doing was made clear. The quality of the visuals is modest at best. Another thing which became clear with time was that Taichi and Rin do no deep thinking about questions like how in the world they could have wound up in a situation like this. They just accept it without asking questions, as if it was only to be expected. At one point Rin gets a little angry at Taichi for trying to sacrifice himself to save her, but for the most part they have about as much personality as a character in an RPG would. So, while not terrible I did not get any sense that there would be anything really noteworthy and exceptional about this show. I considered watching a second episode, but ultimately didn't.
