Ao Horie is a girl who doesn't care about the frivolous pleasures that most teenagers pursue. She is intent on earning admission to a good college, and sets all other goals aside. She is annoyed by Takumi Kijima, a popular guy who keeps making small talk with her when she only wants to study. Ao feels that men in general are only interested in sex and are best avoided. Her life would be easier if her father, Hanasaki, wasn't a popular author of erotic novels.

Midara na Ao-chan wa Benkyou ga Dekinai
(Part of one episode watched):
This was a show which briefly seemed like it might be fun, but then went south in a hurry. The conflict between Ao's prudish personality and that of the carefree Takumi seemed sort of interesting. Even the revelation that Ao's father writes ecchi novels seemed promising at first. But, as is the case nine times out of ten, whenever a conflict that involves sex is introduced it is being introduced not because there is witty dialogue, laughable misunderstandings and a moving romance forthcoming, but rather because the makers are cutting corners and want to score a cheap success by producing borderline porn. For some reason Ao's father is so tiny and so superdeformed that I didn't know what to make of him at first--is this an infant with white hair, or some sort of magical creature, or what? I ended up hating him, perhaps because he sort of single-handedly spoils what had been looking like an entertaining show before he appeared. Once his antics cause Takumi to wind up with his face buried in Ao's breasts I knew what sort of a show this was going to be. Basically, my hopes were dashed eight minutes and eight seconds into episode one, and I did not bother to watch the rest.
