This is looking like a semi-goofy, silly parody of the standard quest theme. The premise seems modestly amusing, and it deserves some credit for the attempt at parody (if I'm not imagining things). Jokes about how this show compares to the standard, far from perfect anime can be amusing. But if only it were a little funnier than it is! The jokes often seem sublime and witty, but not LOL funny. It's frustrating when an encouraging premise doesn't seem to get the support that it needs from the humor. And I don't sense any serious plot coming together either. In that sense, perhaps Last Period doesn't differ enough from the usual. This is a show which I really wish had been a little better, because it largely deserves to succeed; but there is no substitute for quality.
