Remi, on the verge of death, is a member of the GoShogun team who once saved the world several times. Now an old woman who has retreated from the world, her former team mates gather at her deathbed trying to save her life. At the same time, time goes back to when she was but a small child when she was buried alive and nearly died and when she was still with the rest of her team on a dangerous suicidal mission. As we see her older self struggling to hold on to life, we see that she has done the same thing her whole life through and her former team mates watches helplessly as her hold on life loosens slowly right before their eyes.

This anime appears to be a sort of spinoff to an 80s mecha anime featuring the core group of the series reuniting when one of their teammates is on death's door and the series flashbacks to her past recollecting her time as a child and a time when the group face a daunting mission going up against a fanatic cult. In spite of my lack of exposure to its origin series, Time Stranger does do a solid job with exploring Remy's character between fleshing out her past and establishing her place with her team when going up against the fanatic cult, allowing me to care for her as a character. The rest of her teammates, not so much since the film is prominently focused on Remy and my lack of exposure to GoShogun limits what connection I can establish to the other five members of Remy's team. I suppose if you are a fan of the GoShogun series, Time Stranger may be worth checking out. But as a stand-alone film, it's a decent rental at best as it doesn't have much rewatchability due to its single character focus and age.
