Girls' Last Tour features two teenage girls, Chito and Yuri, venturing through a post-apocalyptic world where they regularly seek out food and supplies for their own survival and venture through the various ruins of human civilization. Pretty much, many episodes of the series feature the two lead girls venturing into a different area where they become curious over some lost part of human civilization they encounter, usually coming into contact with other humans or machines. Many of the episodes are divided into two or three segments with the girls musing over what they encounter and wondering what it meant to humanity in the past. While seeming simple on the surface (especially with the simple personalities of Chito and Yuri), Girls' Last Tour is actually quite atmospheric in exploring the two girls venturing through the wreckage of human society in their future as they encounter areas that are both beneficial and a hindrance to humanity's development, as the series regularly carries a melancholic tone in its visuals and soundtrack to show off its world. Anime of this storytelling style that are light on plot and characterization may not be everyone's cup of tea, especially with the rather crude and simple visuals. But if you're looking into an anime that is a bit more heavy on visual storytelling, Girls' Last Tour may be of interest to you.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:3453#628]
(Two episodes watched):

Two girls wander about a frozen wasteland which is full of what were once high-tech weapons of war but are now little more than junk. Judging from episodes one and two, they may be the only characters in the entire series, since no one else turns up. But this episode does little more than introduce the scenario and the two main characters; we get little idea what the fundamental conflict of the series will be. This show is looking like 'post-apocalypse slice-of-life'. Chito and Yuri aren't in immediate danger, they just make a living of sorts scrounging for food, washing their clothes and themselves when they can, making use of precious heated water when it's available, etc, etc. All the while they make small talk. But this small talk seems neither particularly funny nor particularly touching to me, and without either of those (or any action), what am I supposed to watch for? They can't just continue wandering and making small talk for twelve episodes, or at least I won't watch it if that's all they do. The animation--or at least the character designs--are extremely simple. This show doesn't do anything spectacularly wrong, but it doesn't do anything spectacularly right, either. I think I will quit this one.
