While the premise of Hand Shakers would seem like one with storytelling potential with its supernatural combat gimmick and Tazuna's situation with Koyori, the series has a heaping load of issues involving its characters largely being one-note archetypes; the storytelling have its fair share of plot holes with its supernatural elements; awkward meshing of its regular and CG animation with backgrounds, combat scenes, and camera shots; and questionable music choices for its combat and dramatic scenes. It's been a while since I've found an anime I'd genuinely find to be among the worst I've ever seen, but Hand Shakers is definitely deserving of such a dishonor with how messy everything with it was handled throughout its 12-episode run.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:3310#628]
(One episode watched):

I usually try not to copy ANN's synopses of new anime nowadays, but in this case I'll make an exception because after the first episode of Hand Shakers, I still had very little idea what was going on. I don't recall any mention of this taking place in Osaka, in the year 'AD20XX', what a 'Nimrod' is, that a pair of people are needed to summon one, or that God had anything to do with this. What I did know was that there were plenty of scenes of buxom girls in bondage, with chains being pulled across their crotches and breasts. This was pretty clearly lightweight porn with sci-fi being used as an excuse for it. Not sci-fi with a little porn so much as porn with a little sci-fi. Again, after the first episode the story makes little sense and you don't get the feeling that it ever will, just that there will be scenes of girls in bondage again and again. Character 'Bind' does little but squeal in agony/orgasm. This is ugly and kills whatever expectations we might have had of a credible story coming together. The animation does have an unusual 3D look to it. But main character Tazuna has a personality that consists of little more than an obsessive need to fix broken mechanical objects, ranging from watches to cars. There's crazy stuff which intrigues you, and makes you want to know more about how this could possibly be happening, and there's crazy stuff which just seems crazy, makes little sense ('Revelation of Babel!'), and just confuses and frustrates you. I think I would only wind up both confused, frustrated and feeling dirty if I watched this show, so I won't.
