(Four episodes watched):

A guy has a merman, who has fled from a polluted river, in his bathtub. That's fairly weird. Now, will anything be done to develop a story about this strange situation, like maybe ending the pollution and giving the Merman a healthy home once again? Or is this as weird as it gets, and we just get the usual semi-funny 4-koma gags from here on? I ask this because my experience with shorts is that usually there is little or no plot to them, just the comedy, but the comedy isn't all that great and therefore they need something else as well. There are some genuinely LOL shorts, like Strange+, but episode one of Orenchi didn't leave me laughing all that much. I continued watching it, since the episodes are just four minutes long, after all. But I was hoping some sort of story would be included as well. One thing that surprised me: apparently a Merman can drown. That would make him more like a seal or a whale than a fish. Anyway, as more whimsical aquatic creatures turn up, I found myself wishing that these four minute episodes would hurry up and be done with. There's a hint in the OP sequence that Orenchi saving what's-his-name's life will have dramatic significance, but I wasn't seeing much sign of it in the story itself. This show got tiresome; the jokes aren't all that funny and there didn't seem to be much of a story coming together. Usually, a short anime wouldn't have to deliver much to keep me watching, but Orenchi managed to be so boring that I ultimately dropped it.
