Makoto is the fifteenth generation heiress of a small shrine to the god Inari. Her father is still the shrine's priest, but Inari's divine messenger, Gintarou, has appeared to Makoto, marking her as true successor. Gintarou has the ability to see a short distance into the future and to find lost objects, but is unmotivated and foulmouthed. In spite of this, he becomes friends with Makoto, and together they help those who come to the shrine.

More or less, Gingitsune is a slice-of-life title with some light drama in its focus on Makoto and her everyday life with focus on her everyday life as a middle school student, helping others out with their problems and interacting with her shrine's deity, the fox spirit Gintaro. Episodes of the series focus around Makoto making friends with a couple girls that take interest in her involvement at her father's shrine, becoming acquainted with more shrine deities and resolving any problems that some of the town children have. The main cast of the series get enough fleshing out where you can connect with their characters and the mood is quite light-hearted and clean of content, allowing it to stick out prominently from much of the excess that many recent anime offerings are known to have. It doesn't break any new ground with what it offers and will definitely not be for everyone thanks to both its slice-of-life focus and very Japanese feel with Makoto's interactions with spirits. But if you are interested in titles like Natsume's Book of Friends that involve a teen's interactions with Japanese spiritual phenomena, Gingitsune will definitely be up your alley to check out.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:2792#628]
(One episode watched):

There's nothing really wrong with this show, but nothing very right about it either. It seems like a simple, almost children's show about a girl who has a supernatural friend. Gintarou is a gruff, wolf-man herald of the Gods who has a taste for oranges. Makoto is a shrine maiden who seems to be destined for something special. But I got little idea what that special thing might be, and since the worst things that seem liable to happen are arguments between friends, I can't summon much interest in finding out. Neither character has developed much of a personality so far, and little effort is being put into humor. I guess the idea was a sweet, sentimental story which would rely on neither action nor comedy, but I don't find the characters to be interesting enough to care all that much about them; you can't get sentimental about cardboard. Maybe the show will improve, but the odds seem too slim for me.

Unevaluated Devil Doll [series:2792#752]
This one has a touch of Kamichu! but it's a bit too childish for my taste, and I don't like the gruffly and selfish Gintarou character.
