Far in the earth's future, mankind's civilizations have collapsed. Japan has reverted to ancient traditions, living in tribes and worshipping the old gods. In a remote village, two twin children—a boy and a girl—are prophecied to save the land from an approaching age of tyranny and oppression. Tatara, the boy, is brutally murdered by the evil Red King in a village raid. His sister, Sarasa, takes up his quest to stop the Red King.

I cannot believe that this series does not have a season two!!! It's so good not to have one! and the way it ended was so WTF?

I must say it took me awhile to actually sit down and watch this series because i've been juggling so many other series. But once i watched the first episode i just kept going and going and i managed to finish it in two days LOL, all 13 episodes in two days! because it was that good.

Although the series ended pretty awkward i actually thought it was worth it and i'm willing to rewatch this.

So yeah, i'm reading the manga right now just to know how it all ends...

I really recommend this series

Never before have I been so affected at the end of a series as I was when I completed Legend of Basara. It breaks my heart that it was never completed, it is one of the best series that I have seen in a long time.
The animation of this show could have been better but what this show lacks in design in makes up for in story. It is a great romance story but it has it's fair share of violence as well. While it has very serious undertone it is also quite comical.
I would recomend this series to anyone in a heart beat because it cover so many genres that it would be difficult not to find something you like in it.

Although it supposedly takes place in the far future, this series has more of a historical or fantasy atmosphere. The artwork is very rich and satisfying. The plot is intriguing, but on the downside it's unfinished (again—sigh) and may be trying to juggle too many characters and subplots. (In fairness, I must say that I wasn't able to see the whole series, so maybe it's my own fault if I am confused about a few things.)

This series reminds me of Arslan Senki in look and feel, with Basara being somewhat darker.
