To combat the terrorist organization known as "USR", eleven countries combine their naval forces to form the Peace-Keeping Navy (PKN). However, all hell breaks loose when Admiral Red and his USR submarine UX crash the PKN's inaugural ceremony and destroy majority of the fleet. At the last minute, when the UX lands the final blow on the aircraft carrier Apollo-Norm, the obsolete Japanese submarine 707 (a.k.a. "Snapping Turtle") appears from out of nowhere and sacrifices itself to save the PKN flagship. Six months later, Captain Youhei Hayami is called back to duty to lead a new group of recruits and captain an all-new 707 in the war against terrorism underwater.

Submarine 707R
This adaptation of an old manga series is really lacking in terms of plot and characters. The plotting is quite barebones being used purely to setup the 707's battle with Admiral Red's forces and there is barely any fleshing out of characters and elements within the world of the series. Not to mention the OAV has a bad habit of tossing in some illogical moments such as a submarine's AI not being smart enough to know of an incoming attack from multiple subs and the means in which Red's fleet gets overcome. However, Submarine 707R is good enough at creating suspense of the life and death battles fought underwater with its upbeat and tense musical tracks, as well as sporting slick looking CG-rendered submarines that move fluidly enough while engaging one in battle and firing off various armaments. Still unless you are a fan of the Submarine 707 manga series, this series is just another example of an anime caring more for its slick presentation that quality storytelling.
