Tokyo Butei High School, a school that specializes in training high school students into becoming 'butei' otherwise known as armed detectives. In comes Kinji Tooyama, a butei with a very unique ability. He also has a lineage which started with his brother who was a former butei as well so he carries a pedigree along with his name. The only problem is, he comes to realize that he doesn't want to live the life of a butei and it reflects on ranking. One day while going to school, he was chased by a machine gun toting robot who will shoot him if he tries to stop the robot. After a minute of the chase, all of a sudden a ping pig-tailed girl jumps falls from the sky and attempts to save him. That's where I will leave it at.

I chose this anime after watching a few episodes online and thought this may be a solid title since it has elements of harem involved. Needless to say it was an okay series. I wasn't really paying a lot of attention the storyline. It's just a teen suffering from self doubt and a little girl who ends up giving him a reason to stay as a butei. I did mention a special ability that the protagonist has. It's basically the ability to transform into a super human butei minus any real super powers. I won't spoil how he activates it but this was one of the reasons why I stuck with the series. Aria, the pink pig-tailed chic is another atypical short girl that gets treated like a child and must end up proving herself by doing things by herself and refusing help. That I have seen more times than I would care to believe. It's almost a redundant theme with anime that involves some spunky little girl that carries a big gun (and mouth). By the way, even though the anime is supposed to be all about her, it's geared more towards Kinji who I believe is really the hero. The title really does not match this anime in this case. Although the story was kind of disappointing, the reason why I stuck with it was because of what happens to Kinji throughout the series. That right there is it's saving grace. It did have the elements of a good harem however it falls short to broken story lines and some episodes that feels more like filler than plotline.

I did purchase the B-Ray of this series so obviously the art and animation are very good. The action sequences are okay at best but doesn't make you want to stop watching. There was really nothing spectacular about the series itself and the harem element that was there was (like I said) the reason why I give it a 'Rent' rank. If you're solely into harem anime, then you probably should just 'Watch' the series. It almost sounds like the review I'm giving should reflect a 'Watch' rank but without the harem element and Kinji's 'special ability' then it wouldn't be in my collection at all.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:2426#628]
(One episode watched):

Here we have the stereotypical Cute Girl with Guns; there is lots of shooting, but no human gets killed, apparently, just robots which are sort of like a Segue with an Uzi attached to it. Otherwise, not much. After going for around six-and-a-half minutes and seeing little evidence of this one being funny, making sense, or holding my interest, I began fast-forwarding to see if anything besides anti-robot gunplay would happen. It didn't, and the music and character designs suggested nothing worthwhile. This show seems to be based on nothing more than guns and fanservice; the idea must have been to crank out yet another mediocre show with no significant originality to it, and trust that boobs and butts and bullets would be enough to at least break even. I think it is safe to write this one off; there are too many decent shows this season to waste my time on this one.

After being surprised by the halfway decent ratings that this show was awarded at ANN, I began to wonder if I had given this show a fair chance and rewatched episode one in it's entirety. No, I had it right the first time; I don't think I so much as cracked a smile during the entire episode, and the cardboard characters were painful to watch. Aria is a pastiche of cliches from other series--the angry girl who looks like a minor but isn't, the I-wanna-be-your-wife friend, the guy who fights so well that he must be supernatural, the 'shocking' transfer student, etc, etc. The fanservice was even more explicit than I had thought, and I resent shows which seem to think that I am watching them with my testicles.
