No major breakdown of this anime since there really is no major story to begin with. A 17 y.o. kid named Baki shows up at a karate tournament and decimates every opponent with one move. After that, he fights again yet showing his dominance once again. It's short, there is no background into the characters so it's like watching a new anime every time I see it. Problem is that most if not all the characters (with the exception of Baki and Orochi) really lack purpose. I own it and it was about $5 when I bought it years ago on DVD. The only thing I liked about it were the fight scenes. Although pretty absurd, it kept me watching...for a few more mins. I wouldn't avoid it for at least one viewing. After that, store it away or get rid of it. This I would rate as my top 5 worst anime to see. This comes to a good 5 or 4 in my list.

I was at my favorite library and saw this . So I checked it out and I don't think it was that bad. It may not be for everyone. But the character trying and never giving up so he could be like his dad, who was a fighter is always a nice touch to any story. Just like some of the Street fighter animes I have watched. This one had a same theme of kick back action.

Dragonball Z's Goku, and scarred like Trigun's Vash the Stampede's. This is fun to make fun of while you're watching it though, but that's about the only enjoyment you'll get out of this. I don't think it's the kind thing you want to spend your money on. I couldn't stop laughing during the scene when the guy Baki's fighting grabs his nerve with the tip of his finger. It was such a silly scene it was funny. After something like that happening to him, you'd think Baki would at least end up physically impaired, because the fight was such a brutal one. Instead, the movie ends with us knowing that Baki's gonna be just fine. I was hoping he'd die so there'd be no chance of a sequel. Grappler Baki: The Ultimate Fighter is just terrible, and not worth three cents, let alone three dollars. I say watch this, so you can get some laughs out of it, but you really should avoid it...it's garbage. Last updated Wednesday, September 27 2006. Created Tuesday, July 01 2003. |
Man, what a piece of crap. The character designs aren't great, and I didn't even realize Baki was supposed to be 17 years old. Baki has the face of a 6 year old, but a body rippled with muscles as large as ||||||||

This was ok. The animation wasn't very good and the characters were ugly. (You should of seen the look on my friends face when I made her marry Kosho on the bishonen realm)

Those were the exact words out of my mouth when my friend and I first viewed Grappler Baki after my friend had purchased it from Blockbuster for $3 along with Fatal Fury the Movie. This whole movie (I guess you could call it that, but our joke is that it is the equivalent to a made-for-TV-movie-with-option-for-continuation) is just one big idiocity after another. How the hell do you punch through a foot of solid cement, much less moving your arm and tearing through it? Who does those types of movements when cheering at a fight? Explain how soda without the fizz is a "super-energy-drink." And where did they drag the voice actors of the dub out of. Baki introduces a number of characters in an important fashion, meaning that these are important characters, right? NO! All of the characters introduced with the exception of Baki and his opponent in the end play no part in the anime, and the end opponent very little. They introduce a guy who challenges Baki to a fight, kicks down a door, and gawks at how good Baki is while watching him fight... oh yeah, he never fights Baki. It introduces a retard of an old man who explains about their "underground fighting tournament" a whole (my god, be prepared for this number) four levels below the Tokyo Stadium. It introduces a head of a dynastical martial arts school who breaks through a solid cement tube in which he is encased (to show his strength) and... explains about the fighting tournament. Then they show Baki's family briefly... and don't introduce them. In the final fight, Baki faces a guy who uses a fighting style that involves ripping arteries, nerves, tendons, and ligaments... or more simply, "Cord-Cutting." He stabs Baki in the neck (with his finger) and tears a nerve... causing Baki to go blind in one eye. What the hell is that!? He also tears a nerve in Baki's arm and later, Baki uses that arm to perform a complicated grapple on the guy. So at the end of the fight, Baki has won (my god, who could have guessed this one) and he has severe nerve damage and can't fight again... right? Wrong. They write it all off with the line, "Don't worry, we've got the best doctors in the world." Medical science sure has improved by, oh yeah, this takes place in the late 90's. We know they can easily heal numerous ripped nerves with no cost at all to patient's body. The only music I can remember is the ending song which is, like this anime, hilariously bad. The only reason it recieves a watch is that it is really funny. This goes on a list of animes like "A Wind Named Amnesia" of bad/funny animes. Oh yeah, to find a copy, go to your local video rental. The Video Update near me has 3 copies, na no da. Last updated Tuesday, February 06 2001. Created Tuesday, February 06 2001. |
