Azumanga Daioh's Osaka in that both have a plain looking appearance, speak almost identically in style, perform poorly in academics yet having some hidden depths with intellect and have interest in some rather odd things. Essentially, Hotori's actions and some of the overreactions to mundane activities were the comical highlight for me with the show, while anything that revolved around puns with the Japanese language, pop culture nods and later episodes with their really bizarre elements didn't get me giddy much. So essentially, the humor with Yet the Town Moves was hit-or-miss for me. As to be expected with any form of slice-of-life comedy title, your mileage could vary on how well you warm to the not-so-mundane lives of Hotori, her family and her classmates.

Looks like we have ourselves yet another slice-of-life comedy title. For the most part, Hotori helps carry along the title's humor with her quirky interactions with others and those around her putting up with her strange antics. She kind of reminded me of ||||||||

Art, Animation & Character Designs Artwork was mostly kawaii. Most of our main girls were cute and charming, especially Arashiyama. Artwork overall was well done. Music The OP was a silly and cheesy happy piece that you would hear from a low budget broadway dance sequence. It was actually sorta funny. The ED was just awesome!! It wasn't that the music was awesome, but it was the accompanying animation sequence. I loved stupid Arashiyama's bouncing around the scene and her funny as heck Bruce Lee imitation. And then there was "Kon's" voice, the slightly deep lead vocals that gave it a touch of seriousness. You've gotta at least watch through it once even if only for the laughs. Series and Episode Story I'm not sure what to think of this series. Do I like it or don't I? Hmmm. I think if I was japanese and spoke japanese, then maybe I might like it. I say this because I felt the jokes or humor was beyond me and possibly of a japanese flavor. Me being a westerner, I think most of the humor flew over my head. This isn't to say I didn't get a few good laughs. I think this series overall is a comedy. There were some charming points to this series. One, I fell in love with the clumsy Arashiyama. Loved her character and especially that voice of hers. The facial expressions were just great... all the characters... purely kawaii. Overall, this was a light silly entertainment where most the humor came from the protagonist. It's something to catch on your spare time. Last updated Tuesday, January 18 2011. This is one of those series that had a sense of humor that didn't seem to work too well with western audiences. Most the humor drew blank for me but I found it fun to watch nevertheless.||||||||

(All episodes watched): I watched this one but didn't know what to say about it for several days. My mind drew a blank, and neither any strong praises nor complaints occured to me. One thing I was certain of was that it had an unusual sense of humor. For some reason I didn't do a whole lot of laughing while watching this; were the jokes just not funny, or was I not 'getting' them? So, episode one left me confused and it would take another episode or two for me to conclude whether I liked this show or not. Early on, Soredemo just didn't seem all that funny. You would think that taking the time and trouble to write lengthy, relatively complex dialogue would have a major payoff, but somehow it didn't seem to be so. I'm not saying that there are no laughs at all, just that the amount of time and concentration which must be invested to watch an episode seemed to earn the viewer a meagre amount of humor in return. This seems a 'much about nothing' show, where after all the talk and not particularly funny jokes, the plotline just fades away into nothing (each episode consists of several subplots). I wondered if the plot of the series as a whole was going anywhere. One problem may be that main character Hotori seemed kind of annoying. I was disappointed because everything about this show seems to have potential, but ultimately not a great deal comes of it. Episode four was more pleasing since it had a general theme, i.e, relations between Arashiyama and her math teacher, instead of a confusing mix of jokes which have little in common. Episode five shifts some of its attention to Arashiyama's brother, a new character. Perhaps the problem with Soredemo in general is that we haven't gotten to know the characters very well, so it's more difficult to laugh along with them; and here is yet another one. Over time, however, I find that I have slowly, subtly gotten to like this show more. It is not exactly a favorite of mine, but I don't feel a vague fear that I might be about to watch something that will be largely a waste of time. And sometimes it gets into it's stride and produces a genuinely fun story. Episode eight (I think), in which the Maid Band which appears in the ED sequence is finally formed, was especially fun. Maybe when we follow a semblence of a story with the characters, rather than getting largely nonsensical, disjointed joking between them, there is a pleasing effect. In general, Soredemo got better over time. Last updated Saturday, January 15 2011. Created Saturday, October 16 2010. |
