Described as a sci-fi (?) love comedy. Niwa Makoto is an ordinary high school boy. While his parents are away on business, he lives with his aunt's family. There he meets one of his cousins Towa Erio, who wraps her upper body with Futon mattress and calls herself an alien. Earlier Erio had gone missing for half a year and she was found floating in the ocean. She can't remember anything happened during this period, but she started to believe that aliens were behind it. So now she wanders the neighborhood draped in a Futon searching for the aliens.

It was announced at the TBS Anime Festa 2010 that Irima Hitoma's light novel Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko has been green-lit for a TV anime series. More info at ANN.

Ground Control is standard fare for an anime mixing slice-of-life comedy and moe to appeal to both fanbases in its focus on Makoto trying to make his bizarre-behaving cousin Erio behave normally. The mannerisms, quirks and bizarre behavior of many of the cute-looking characters (beyond its alien/ esper gimmick) in the series are the driving force of this series, which will ultimately make or break your interest in the show. The only thing that got my attention was a surprising twist in the anime's final episode that provides some interesting insight on mysteries that we perhaps wouldn't have valid answers for in regards to its alien/ esper theme. If only the series were more focused on that aspect instead of the slice-of-life focus and moe pandering that many recent titles love to dip into. Ultimately, Ground Control's pretty typical stuff and is rather forgettable as a result of not doing anything to break the mold besides using its alien theme as a gimmick for tiresome anime cliches.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:2368#628]
(One episode watched):

Sometimes, within the first few minutes of a new show, an ominous feeling comes over me as it swiftly becomes clear that there will be little or no imagination, originality, or, to make it short, entertainment to be found. Such was the case with Denpa. Why do I not feel the slightest semblance of interest in this show? Because the jokes fall flat? Because the characters are two-dimensional? Because it seems to be relying on fanservice? Because the subtitles are hardly worth reading? Because the music seems discordant with the visuals? Answer: all of the above. You would think that in a show about supposed 'aliens' a little originality would be required, but apparently not. If only I could put into words the utter bankruptcy of entertainment within this show; I quickly became convinced that I had seen more than enough and quit at the station break.
