This felt like some sort of pitch for an anime series more than a movie. We get to see two boys in possession of bizarre-looking monsters with schoolgirl Yuki caught up in their clash with one another yet Cencoroll doesn't really bother going into much detail over who these boys are, how they gained control of the monsters they have and what has the military going after them. The movie does sport a unique presentation with abstract visuals of the city environment, decent looking character designs and moments of fluid animation coming from the monster battles and their later clash with the military. Yet without any kind of plot or character development or exploration, I could hardly care for what Cencoroll was trying to build up towards. I've heard that there's a sequel to the movie in the works. But with this movie as bland on its elements as it was, I don't feel tempted to see the sequel if it ever pops up.

Huh? This seemed amusing at first, but it ended abruptly and I don't have the damndest idea what the message (if any) was. Strange, shape-shifting creatures are fighting, apparently because they are trying to devour each other, and each has a human (I think) cooperating with it. But that's about all I can say for sure. What were those things and where did they come from? Why were they doing their fighting here on earth? Is this fight over and done with, or will it continue later on? What was that bit at the very end? And most of all, what exactly happened to make the fight turn out the way it did? I think that too many questions were left unanswered, to the point where the viewer becomes confused and frustrated. When I don't understand the basic premise, how am I supposed to understand the climax? Since the story was so confusing, I don't feel inclined to watch it yet again in order to make more complete sense of it all.

Unevaluated Jan-Chan [series:2179#967]
I always wonder just how someone can call a 27-minute episode a ‘movie’? If it’s released on a DVD/BlueR, then it’s called an OVA or an OAD. Call it a movie and it picks up a bit of mystic, but just who will be willing to spend $$ to sit through a half-hour story in a theatre? And just how much story can be told in 27-min?

A large strange alien beast appears over the city, settles on top of building and just sits there. A boy with a smaller transforming alien beast watches from a distance and decides to attack the larger beast. A high school girl finds the boy’s beastie and befriends both it and the boy. Then another boy with another alien beast shows up to offer a challenge and starts a battle of the egomaniacal boys and their beasties.

What are the monsters and were do they come from? Are the boys really human or aliens like their beasties? And what are they really up to? How is the girl able to control one of the beasties?

Granted that this short episode has good animation and interesting characters, it just has too many unanswered questions to offer any real satisfaction. I really just want to consider this to be a pilot episode, launched to see if it can generate enough interest for a real full-length movie or a TV series.
