Following the events that occurred in Record of Lodoss War, Ashram and Pirotess find themselves stranded with a fleet of ships at sea. Encountering a strange island, a mysterious voice offers Ashram salvation on the island. 300 years later, people have prospered on the island, but part of the island is guarded by a huge stone cliff known as "the God's Wall". A young man, Redon, is forced to flee his home following his parents murder. Redon and his companions travel through the God's Wall and into the mysterious and dangerous land of Crystania.

I don't feel quite as badly about this as Kaneda. The storyline is actually quite interesting, following what happens after the end of the Lodoss TV series. It's interesting to see Ashram and Pirotess as heroic figures rather than villains, as Ashram in particular had become almost heroic by the end of the TV series. The new characters are reasonably sympathetic. I liked Redon better than Spark. The voice acting is solid, and the music is passable although nowhere near as good as the Lodoss score.

However, the artwork in this movie is so bad that it hurts to look at it. It looks like the animators had no time, no money, and no interest in what they were doing. (Also, somewhere along the way they forgot that Pirotess is a Dark Elf, not a High Elf like Deedlit.) After much searching, I finally found a site that has some screen shots; it is linked below. Keep in mind that the two figures in the center picture of the top row are supposed to be Pirotess and Ashram, and you'll see what I mean!

One further note: Watching the movie is a better experience if you follow it up with the Legend of Crystania OAV's. Several things which don't make sense in the movie are explained there.

Bottom line: If you're a Lodoss fan, rent the Crystania series. The dreadful artwork will probably keep you from wanting to buy it, but the story will interest you.

Avoid 1 1 1 1 1 Kaneda [series:214#87]
At first when I heard abbout this spn off from Lodoss war I was intrigued and pulled in by it. Out of instinct I aquired a copy and sat down to watch it. I came out of it saying "Well theres go another 85 minutes of my life wasted". I can honestly say this movie is an affront to the named lodoss and whoever decided to do this should be dragged out into a public square and shot. Firstly they comletly scrwewed up the charcters who where pirotess and Asram, the coloring and animation was god awful, it was very very dull. The characters where balnd at best, and lacked any off the charm that was in Lodoss. WARNING: DO NOT WATCH THIS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, IT IS NOTHING CLOSE TO THE QUALITY OF lODOSS TV OR OVA'S IT IS AN INSULT TO THE NAME LODOSS. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!!
