Apparently, this ONA is supposed to be a promotion for a dating sim game. All the conventions of the genre were around from the story approach of a male lead meeting several girls to interact with and suggestive situations typical of the genre that wouldn't be believable for me. All the girls were made to be overly cute, gentle, and submissive fitting the specific archetypes commonplace in the genre such as the meganekko, the younger sister, and the clutz. Judging from what I seen, this would be the sort of title that hormonal fanboys of dating sims would want to indulge into. As for me, I have no interest in neither the dating sim game nor the rest of this ONA series for that matter.

Watch Stretch [series:1658#628]
(All episodes watched):

A newly arrived teenage boy is astounded to see a whale floating in the sky above a city. What's just as astonishing is that a cute girl finds his reaction amusing. Of course there's a whale in the sky--what did this foolish boy expect?

I noticed a fansub by a new title and downloaded it to check it out. As if the flying whale wasn't weird enough, this introductory episode had a length of around four-and-a-half minutes--some sort of promo, perhaps? I found this very odd and silly introduction to be intriguing, and went looking for details. Apparently, all twelve episodes will have a length of four or five minutes (and a minute or so of that will be taken up by credits). It seems that these were made to drum up interest in a new video game ("Visual Novel"?), and were not shown on TV but rather could be downloaded from the internet (which I guess would qualify them as ONAs), one per week. It was too soon to say if these will be very good (or even tell a complete story), but I found the first one to be amusing and they would hardly demand a major commitment of my free time!

No, they don't tell any semblance of a complete story, but that's okay with me. It seems that either the viewers are supposed to already be familiar with the characters of SSK, or these short features are supposed to tweak their interest. Either way, I enjoyed them. Some are better than others, but ones like "How BBQ Meat Feels" (number six) were great fun and made me wish a full-fledged SSK TV series would be made. Number seven, in which classmates compete to see who can draw the best sketch of the whale hovering over the city (their artistic skills are laughably appalling), was good too--it's hard to believe such weird incidents actually took place in a dating sim (maybe they didn't). Again, I wish this was a full-length TV series! I didn't know what to make of episode ten, which in contrast to the others was completely serious, even tragic (unless they were hamming it up)--I was sure they must be building towards one major gag, but it never came about. So, some of these were funny, some were dramatic, and some just left me scratching my head. There was no explanation of the flying whale, but something strange happens to it at the end. All-in-all, I enjoyed these. It's hard to imagine anybody paying to watch these, but don't underestimate the fun you might have even with a "Watch" rating. There's little chance that I'll ever participate in the visual novel, but these gave me a good impression of SSK nevertheless--I think that was what they were supposed to do.
