This third omake isn't as good as the former two. Hecate-tan take more of a center role, but Shana-tan is also around. The writers decided to go for a more ecchi approach with the humor, building on what they started in Shakugan no Shana-tan Returns. Sydonai's caring nature for Hecate in the original is replaced with a creepy obsession-like attitude for Hecate-tan. And then the show dips into the shounen-ai realm with an implied scene that's supposed to be funny, but wasn't for me. The show then has Hecate-tan do something else to imply ecchi moments to get Hecate-tan to say "hentai" again. Frankly, I didn't care for this kind of humor. Wilhelmina and Tiamat return as well to basically repeat the shtick from Shakugan no Shana-tan Returns. While I've always enjoyed the two of them talking, the joke of their presence was a bit old, though I did smile when Tiamat spouted things like "Wikipedia" and the official website of the series. Finally, Yoshida-san returns with her latest dog, which was the most amusing moment for me considering what had happened to her previous dogs in Shakugan no Shana-tan Returns. There is an implied potential "to be continued" sequel series to this series of chibi OAV's but whether these will continue to be produced is unclear. Bottom line: Not as funny as the previous two titles, and the implied ecchi stuff didn't do anything for me. BUT, if you've watched the first two, you might as well check this out too.Last updated Tuesday, November 14 2006. Created Friday, November 10 2006. |
