Watch Stretch [series:1185#628]
(Three episode watched? I've lost track):

Along with Kujibiki Unbalance, GtHM represents a curious trend of fictional anime series that were mentioned in genuine TV shows being given lives of their own. I've been looking forward to this show, having watched and enjoyed Densha Otoko. Initially, however, it seemed disappointing; character designs were rather plain, with undetailed, bland faces. Background artwork was good, but maybe too good for the seemingly modest animation. Perhaps most disturbing was that right from the start I detected a lack of backstory and character development on Mina's part--she's a generic "I'll do my best" girl, it seemed. The show didn't seem particularly funny at first, either. However, when Mina transformed, and the narrator explained the part carrots played in the process, I couldn't help laughing while simultaneously exclaiming "WTF?". The animation of Mina's weapons being dispatched to her from the moon was pretty neat--a lot of CG, I'll bet--and for some reason reminded me of the way mechanical motion used to be depicted in old American cartoons of the 'thirties. The animation of the baseball stadium fight was pretty good; ever since Densha Otoko I've wondered what those huge carrots dangling from Mina's belt were for, and at last I have an answer. There was also fairly blatant boobservice at times. In short, this opening episode got much better towards the end, but still has some rough edges. As of yet there hasn't been any appreciable character development for Mina (or should it be "Miina" now?) or anybody else, or any explanation why rabbits are threatening the earth, which are problems which I hope will be remedied ASAP. At the end Mina asks herself "What just happened?" which is just what I was thinking. But I'm fairly interested, and will be on the lookout for more episodes of Getsumen to Heiki Miina.

P.S: I've watched a couple more episodes, but this is a definite "Watch" show as a whole: Once in a while I watch an episode on a whim, but I wouldn't particularly care if I never got to view the series as a whole.

Trivia: Although she is just now getting her own series, it seems that Miina has been around for awhile. According to Anime Insider magazine (#32, May 2006), the future founders of Gainax "created a short anime for the 1983 Daicon convention, about a bunny-suited girl who beat the crap out of a huge crowd of Japanese and American pop culture stars, including Godzilla, Darth Vader and the alien from Alien. The video used E.L.O.'s song 'Twilight'" (just like the OP sequence to Train Man, which also featured Miina!).

Watch Jan-Chan [series:1185#967]
Silly... very silly... silly sexy rabbit girls... silly secret moon base... silly giant robots... and silly rabbit space alien invaders. (Why does the Mina-Rabbit-Girl remind me of the bouncy Mimika-rabbit-girl from Usagichan De Cue?)

In all, this is worth a quick and silly peek, but not much more.

Some snaps of the first episode have been posted.
