BTW ANB, Mai Hime does NOT have Chans or Sans. And Shizuru (Who is played by a Kyoto lady) is played as a Confederate straight off the cotton farm. It reminds me of an old twilight zone episode for some reason.

That's Bandai for ya. It was their "Love Hina" dub that put me off English dubs and started me on the road to my "otaku" demands on subtitles. ^_^;

Just another reason not to support Bandai and keep my money with FUNimation. ^_^

Thanks for the heads-up!

So far Funi has the best dubs. Though Chris Patton as Sousuke Sagara is my current favorite.

Which reminds me, in Gakkou no Kaidan, is the dub only the made-up one or did they do a real one? I understand that there are two subtitles (real and one for the ADV story).

If ADV thought the story was so bad that they needed a new story to dub, it makes me wonder why they licensed it. No wonder they aren't doing well these days. lol

Hehe , only one English Track. But I did check the other sub track and I didn't see any sans or chans either.

Poor ADV. I wish they could get enough money to buy FMP!TSR, but TAN and Newtype are sucking up all their open funds.

BTW: Which Disks DO have sans and chans? Not even Genshiken has that.

Forbin asked: "Which Disks DO have sans and chans? Not even Genshiken has that."

I had downloaded the fansubs back when the show was being released in Japan. I'm only just now getting around to watching them. ^_^; I plan to complain to "Genshiken's" licensor because of this. After all, this is a title about the otaku life in Japan -- VERY Japanese. So force-translating or ignoring the honorifics does a diservice to the title (IMO).

As to "Gakkou no Kaidan," did you watch the original story beyond checking parts of it out? This isn't a title on my RADAR, but I think it would be good to review and compare the made-up dub and the subtitle version. That way you'd be providing a valuable service to anime fandom (IMO). ^_^

on Ghost Stories, I watched the first episode with both subs on. After the laugh fest of the English Dub, I found the japanese sub fairly lacking. I was actively looking for chans and sans on it (because of you mostly) but it just wasn't as funny as the first. I think it was more scary.
