| Flashback: The Viscount of Braunschweig has no heir as his wife has given birth only to three daughters. But when he decides to let bastard son Edward live as a member of his own family the boy gets to feel the hatred of their new mother who'll never forgive her husband for this humiliation. Edward's sister was given away to a foreign family as to allow her leading a happy life.
Back in present time, Orpherus and Edward walk the streets of the village when they suddenly meet a young woman chased by thugs; the academy members can easily drive away these people. When this girl tells her story she resembles Edward very much of his long-lost sister. Edward visits this girl and brings her flowers; Ludwig suspects the son is about to repeat the flaws of his father. Later Edward detects a letter from this girl in his uniform pocket, asking him to meet her at night - and shortly after the academy direction has been informed that one of their scholars might have left the institute without permission... | |
