Sunabouzu - 17: Junko and Pursuer / Perv in Pursuit

Title:Sunabouzu
Episode:17: Junko and Pursuer / Perv in Pursuit
Synopsis
Junko is fleeing from a strange man who is watching her through a hi-tech night vision device. Kanta and Kosuna have just taken leave of an old acquaintance of his when Junko finds them. She has an official Mugenya job order which calls upon them to "save" her. The pay is quite good, which only makes Kanta suspicious. He hasn't forgotten their last encounter and refuses to work for her, no matter what the wages. She finally explains that it has to do with her being forced to marry another man. Just then Kanta is knocked out by a sniper's bullet bouncing off his helmet. After some bizarre dreams he comes to in a cave, where Kosuna explains that they have little ammunition and the sniper is probably watching. She recommends that they throw Junko out, but Kanta announces that they'll accept the job, for a reason that is typical of him. However, he has a special condition for signing the contract. Both parties having reached an agreement, they make a break from the cave, but the sniper is close behind. Junko reveals that their pursuer is wearing a highly advanced desert suit with remarkable scouting capabilities, which once enabled him to "wipe out 13 fully-equipped mercenaries in the blink of an eye!" "Why", Kanta asks, "couldn't you have mentioned that before I signed?"...

Stretch 11/3/06:

Oh Man, the trick Kanta used to turn the tables--or,more accurately, the thrill he gets out of it... you just have to see it for yourself. The dub version got a bit squeamish about explaining it, which was odd as it is usually just as perverted as the original subtitled version (was it just my imagination, or was the company that made the super desert suit called "Balls-a-hurtin'" in the dub?). The dub takes a lot of liberties with the script, but given the weird sci-fi setting of the show (with few references to modern-day Japanese culture), localization isn't really that big a problem. In fact, it's almost like getting two shows for the price of one. Towards the end things seemed to be wrapping up, and I began to wonder if this was really part one of a two-parter, but yes, it is. "Dark Ages Technology" seems to be becoming an ongoing subplot, and I wonder if the final episode of the series will be based on it.
