Synopsis
The last episode concludes with some future development of the characters. Nina graduates top of the class, and Tenma joins ↗Doctors without Borders (or MSF, medicine sans frontier). Tenma went to see Nina and Johan's mother, and she tells him their true names, the names she wanted to give them after birth. Tenma went to see the still comatose Johan after his second brain operation by Tenma (oh I loved that part), but sees a vision of Johan's mother giving up Nina to Bonaparta. And Johan asked who is the real monster, and who is the unwanted one, implying that Nina may be the one with the truly frightening ability to kill. After Tenma left, Johan disappeared yet again, leaving an open ending.
Comments
I believe that the act of giving up Nina had no real significance to it. The mother had no way of knowing who can endure this better, and she probably loved them equally. Even though Johan is at large yet again, I believe that Johan will no longer kill anyone; Nina has forgiven him, and he now has a real name (Tenma told Johan he knew his real name, but we dont get to know if Johan is informed). I believe Johan will either find Nina again, or disappear for good... Well, i am an optimistic person.
