| "The Scream" (Skrik, 1893) is a seminal series of expressionist paintings by Norwegian artist Edvard Munch, depicting an agonized figure against a blood red skyline. Anyone who has watched a fair amount of anime cannot help noticing how often the painting is parodied in visual jokes.
For example, here is Yukari-sensei shocked by the possibility of her class losing the final competition of the school's sports festival (the relay race) against the class of her fellow teacher, friend and rival Minamo-sensei (which would also cost Yukari the money she had bet on the victory of her own class against Minamo).
