| Synopsis |
| Ledell Nikolavitch, described as “one of the world’s top five snipers”, passes a deadly marksmanship test and is hired to assassinate famous Broadway producer Ted Conan. Conan, however, has gotten wind of his Vice-President Bob Stigner’s intent to do him in, and in turn hires Duke to kill Stigner. The reason he hires such a professional is this: Stigner must be killed just before he himself is shot. Stigner orders his mafia go-between to kill Nikolavitch once he completes the job. Conan bitterly recalls how he recruited Stigner, who was a nobody at the time, and raised him up to be his own second-in-charge. Nikolavitch runs into Duke in a bar, and afterwards the thought occurs to him that this man’s odd habits might just make him the legendary Golgo 13… |

| This is definitely a show which makes a lot more sense the second time around! The plots are far more sophisticated than you would think after a mere one viewing, and unless you have paid very close attention you are liable to miss several things. The climactic scene takes place very quickly and the first time around I was left saying to myself "what just happened"--no, I guess it was more like "how did that just happen"? Who gets killed and who doesn't was surprising. I couldn't help feeling sorry for Nikolavitch, who didn't want to be an assasin, refused to try to kill Duke, and even seemed friendly to him while in the bar. Based on the title and preview I had sort of expected the two snipers to wind up cooperating somehow. again, it wasn't until the second viewing that I realized some of these things (and also what had happened while the game of street hockey was going on). This is one series which tends to take place in the US, though probably not as a compliment! |
