There's so much good about this episode, most notably Kaori's development. But the sudden ending significantly damaged this episode for me. Concatenating game arcs means to drop characters just when they've become important to the audience. Kanon 2002 worked so much better in this aspect by parallelizing the arcs.

I was sad that Amano wasn't at Shiori's party. *sigh* I knew the writers would drop her and never bring her back. But if she's truly Yuuichi's friend, she should be at the party.

As to Kaori finally lowering her defenses, that was nice. The episode is beautiful for the most part and had me dabbing tears, cause I'm that kind of guy. The fact that the episode just ended almost suggests that the writers ran out of time and if Shiori is just dropped, I'll be annoyed (she is name-dropped in the preview for the next episode though).

Stretch:
Is the Shiori arc over with already? Doesn't it need to tie in somehow with the theme of memory loss and Yuuichi's childhood experiences? This episode got pretty raucous and funny at the party, then turned disturbing at the fountain.
