The first episode with a perfect score from my side. Mai is now the officially acclaimed oracle of this series; Kitagawa's apperarance was awesome. Yuuichi taking Ayu along was another surprise for me but looks like a good idea. Shiori did her best to delay the inevitable; Ayu provided some more bits and pieces, and Mai did as well. It's a pity that dog incident went to waste (it was a highlight of K2, filling half an episode there), but we can't have everything.
Something bothers me though: Why is Nayuki so incredibly tired recently? Does she have her own business at night? (This is the Nayuki version of the game, apparently completely different from her K2 version.)

You know, I still wonder what it is that Yuuichi sees when he and Mai fight these "demons." Certainly, he knows there is something there, but the way the episode is cut, sometimes I do wonder if he sees nothingness or if he actually sees the distortions that mark the demon's presence.

Anyway, Kitagawa went from annoying loser character to someone at least half-way decent when he stood up for Mai at the Student Council meeting. So kudos there.

As for Mai, well she's just such a great character. Her seiyuu's dead-pan delivery makes some of her remarks just so funny. The dog incident that DD mentions is actually parodied in this episode. A real dog incident is shown with Mai and Sayuri's meeting, but when Yuuichi is practicing and remarks about wishing to have a dog to practice on (or a boar), what Mai does just had me rolling in laughter. "Woof" and "Moo" indeed. ^_^ I'll have to get some screen captures when I get a bit more time to work on them (and an episode summary).

On the serious side of Mai, it does appear that she knows more about Ayu than she's currently letting on. I hope this means that at the conclusion of the Mai arc, she continues to play a role (unlike Amano, who sadly has just disappeared).

Stretch:
Wow, two demon fights in one episode! Yuuichi really takes a lot of weird stuff in stride; if I learned that a friend was actually the reincarnation of a fox, and demons were targetting me, I'd probably freak out. But this show is really tantalizing about now. Usually, I'd wait a couple days between Kanon episodes while I watched the latest episodes of numerous other series; but I couldn't wait, and watched this one just a day after the last one. I'll definitely rewatch the series as a whole someday.
