Gantz - 15: I Wanna Be There Now!

Title:Gantz
Episode:15: I Wanna Be There Now!
Synopsis
Kei is upset after losing his temper and provoking Kishimoto into leaving him; she wanders about, homeless. Kato and Ayumu are getting used to their modest apartment. The old woman who asked Kei for directions in the subway shows up at his place yet again. Hojo overhears some schoolgirls talking about how he seems to have dropped out of sight recently. Kei gets the feeling that he's about to be summoned by Gantz yet again, and hurriedly dons his power suit. He finds himself eager to go, whereas Kato hates the thought of taking part in another hunt. In the apartment, they find a strange man answering the questions of the new set of recruits. The man, who Kei recognizes as a televised priest, has concluded that the strange room is some sort of trial which they must all pass before going to heaven. "Listen to him!" Kei says to himself. "He thinks he knows it all!"...

Stretch:
Though I seldom watch more than one episode of a series at a time, I made an exception here because the preview at the end of the last episode made it clear that another alien hunt would begin rightaway. That was surprising, since there were four episodes between the first and second hunts. What's the deal with the old woman? Nobody besides Kei seems to run into her; is she working for Gantz somehow? We get another glimpse of the man curled up inside Gantz; wouldn't you think somebody would try to get his attention, to see if he's still alive, and as a way of getting some answers? The guy who was watching Tetsuo play with his blaster seems to be among the new team, and Sakuraoka is too--I wonder what she died of? When Kei enjoys a bit of good luck just before the mission, I could only exclaim "Oh God"! If Gantz ever airs on Adult Swim, each censored episode will be about five minutes long.

Forbin
Don't mess with the man in the ball. He will get back at you. Trust me.
Now begins the best arc of the whole thing and the one where the manga and the anime diverge.
BTW The old woman is in the manga but once. Not the 3 or 4 times she shows up in the Anime. Sakuraoka (Who btw in the manga looks just like Lara Croft) died in the car crash that also claimed stalker girl and the grandma.

A very weak episode. Again lots of stupid new characters, and Sakuraoka will have to provide a very convincing reason for agreeing to have sex with Kei during their first conversation ever. Kei fantasizing to have sex with Kishimoto and the dog abusing Kishimoto... is this a failed attempt to write a hentai or what? Or are the writers desperately out of story ideas? I could name a few: Kishimoto not knowing that Kato doesn't live with his aunt anymore is most unfortunate as her trying to live with Kato and Ayumu (!) might have provided an interesting development and have them think about their relation - the conversations between Kei and Kishimoto were the most interesting part of this anime so far, giving at least these two characters a bit more depth. The old woman might have been another opportunity to make this story more interesting... what a pity to read she's not in the manga. All in all: Too many wasted opportunities.
