Gantz - 11: He Can't Shoot

Title:Gantz
Episode:11: He Can't Shoot
Synopsis
Nishi's power suit has malfunctioned, and he's splashing about in the riverbed, desperately trying to escape from the alien. Though no one else feels much pity for Nishi, Kato leaps into the river in an attempt to save him. But he cannot reach him in time and Nishi is seriously injured by some sort of sonic blast weapon. Nishi begs for someone to shoot the alien, so that they can all return from the mission, and Kishimoto likewise urges Kato to fire his weapon. But Kei knows he can't do it, just like he couldn't bring himself to shoot the Greenonion Alien. Kishimoto decides that if nobody else will help Kato, she will, which finally persuades Kei to take action himself. Haruya and Kinji lose interest and wander off, followed by Grandma and her grandson. Kato manages to grab the alien--but he doesn't realize what he's got his hands on...

This episode almost makes me want to exclaim "Damnit, why didn't you let me direct this one"? The fight scene was lame, with slow moving action and as a result it wasn't particularly exciting. Why did the alien go underwater for several minutes, while the characters argued among themselves? Didn't it occur to anybody to take a shot from the bridge? What did happen was confusing--how did Kato get ahold of the alien? I can hardly blame the characters who wandered off, since that's probably what I would have done as well (though, as you might have guessed, it didn't turn out to be such a good idea). As Nishi lies badly injured, he claims he never hated anyone, just society--but it's not a very convincing confession, since he splattered one of the bikers, threatened to kill anyone who slowed him down, and mercilessly hunted small animals as practice for the mission. Furthermore, why did the characters stand around feeling sorry for him, instead of hurrying up to complete the mission so that he could be transported back to the Gantz and healed of his wounds? And why did we keep flashing back to that "Pedestrians And Bicyclists Only" sign? A very frustrating episode. I'd be especially pissed if there were still only two episodes on this disc, but there are finally three. One final thought--what happened to the stalker girl? I didn't see her anywhere in this episode.
Forbin

Actually stalker girls does her best, at being a stalker (I think she just ran away and hid). Hehe. And it was a bit lame how the alien took forever underwater while they were talking.
The Flashing sign was actually a little bit of Gantz humor. Episode 12 shows it's purpose.
And why didn't they shoot? The alien has already demonstrated super speed, so shooting it at a distance might hit Nishi.
