A Little About Me
I'm not a crazy anime fan however, I do watch them often. When it comes to watching them, I'm quite choosy. I will first make a judgement based on the anime summary or background. Then, if I "really" think it might be a good one, I will download, rent, or even buy it. More times than not... rather, nearly everytime it would be worth the time I spend on it. If you look at my scores, none fall below 39 out of a possible 60 (which will be virtually impossible since that would declare a "perfect" anime). The reason for this is because I attempt to make a judgment based on existing reviews, synopsis and first impressions before choosing to spend my time on an anime. As well, I will take and accept only reviews purely from Mikomi here since I believe that I will find more honest and "fare" reviewers in this community.
Subbed vs Dubbed
Ahhh, there's the age old question. First, I don't understand Japanese thus I'm stuck choosing these alternatives. My choice would be Subbed, 100%. Reason? I want to know exactly what the voice actor/actress is saying even though I can't understand it and I want to hear it in all it's original glory... meaning the voice, tone and emotional aspects of it. As well, I'm a fast reader and can read and understand a block of text purely from peripheral vision without missing any of the animation itself. There's only been a few rare cases where I would have to go back, pause and read the text over; i.e. when it display for a quick sec or get distracted.
A little about my scoring system
The scores I give a series will not reflect the "Overall" rating. For me, the "Overall" rating includes much more than simply the 6 rating characters that follow it; (art, animation, character design, music, series story & episode story). The primary determination of the "Overall" rating is how "I" relate, understand & feel about the series I just watched. If I get drawn into the anime weather mentally or emotionally, and feel good overall about the series, then chances are, the "Overall" rating will be a rent or buy even though the 6 other ratings might be a bit on the average or low. As for a score of "10", I will rarely score 10. 10 represents "perfect" or a breath away from perfect. In my opinion, almost nothing is perfect.
- Types of anime I enjoy most:
- Epic / Grand / Fantasy
- Drama / Slice of life
- Comin of age / All ages
- Artistic
- Types of anime I try to AVOID:
- Mecha / Robots
- Star Trek-ish / Star War-ish
- Yaoi
- Most magic

Baccano! |
Buy |
Baccano is Italian for noise, but light novelest Narita translates it as "stupid commotion" in the literary source of this series. Each of the stories in the series involves several unrelated plots intersecting and crossing each other as events spiral farther and farther out of control. Immortal alchemists, mafia operated speakeasies, and many other elements of pulp fiction are mashed together for a world straight out of the movies. |
