High School of the Dead (HOTD) is one of my all time favorites. So naturally, I had to pick this one up for some more HOTD goodness.

Art, Animation & Character Designs
Artwork and animation was on par with the series. See my review on the series here.

Music
There was no soundtrack really to speak of, but we do get an ED. T/he ED was a light pop piece with female vocals, which did nothing for me. Still wasn't bad I suppose.

Series and Episode Story
Ok, so I was hoping for some more zombie goodness..... but somehow we missed it completely. Instead, we end up with a super ecchie-fied 15 minute episode of a mini vacation with our characters from the original series. This short one was all about boobs, butts and beaches (or 'a' beach)..... bbb :)

Now this is not to say I don't appreciate bbb, but I was hoping the plot would be further developed.... but it doesn't. Still, I enjoyed our characters and the fact that it's still the HOTD world.

Overall, it's an episode that can be skipped unless you're a die-hard HOTD fan.... like I. Now if only the second season would hurry up and get here.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:2385#628]
HOTD was one of the most addictive anime I have ever watched; it was a show which pulled all the right strings to keep viewers enthralled even though the story itself wasn't all that bold or meaningful. It is powered by sex and violence, but it knows this, and delivers those qualities with style. Consequently, I was delighted when I got access to this extra episode. Finding it to be only a 15 or so minute half episode was like being awarded a free steak dinner--only to find that the portion consisted of only a couple bites. "HOTD: Boobs on the Beach" would have been a more appropriate title for this fanservice-laden omake piece. The team has taken refuge on a small island off Japan's coast since zombies cannot swim. The weather is splendid, and the girls take turns trying to attract Takahashi's attention by wearing skimpy bikinis. This mini-episode does not advance the main plot at all; zombies hardly even appear, and it doesn't even qualify as a filler episode. Instead it is all comedy and a fanservice-fest. In that it does exactly what it was meant to do--it delivers good quality jokes and fanservice without any fooling around, which is just what the fans want. I would have preferred a bit more to the main plot, even if it was just a filler episode, but any additional HOTD is a blessing so I won't complain too much.
