KITOU Akari
SATO Gen
As a child, Satou witnessed the incredible arrival of Hime and her grandfather upon earth from some sort of glowing light. Hime asked him to keep what he had seen a secret, in exchange for which she would be his friend. He agreed. Ten years later, Satou was about to confess that he had fallen in love with her when she abruptly announced that she would be leaving soon. She had been called back to her home world to be married for diplomatic purposes. Satou could not accept this and on an impulse dashed into the same magic pyre through which she was returning to her homeland. He finds that in exchange for being allowed to sort-of marry Hime, he is now obliged to serve as a hero who will defend her land from "Monsters from the Abyss'.

(One episode watched):

I am convinced that the three most important factors in anime, or any form of dramatic storytelling for that matter, are character, character and character. The characters have got to be interesting people who you feel you know fairly well, not more-or-less strangers, in order for you to become engaged with the story and care how it works out. I wish I knew where exactly the dividing line lies between strangers and familiar people, but wherever it is I can say with confidence that Satou and Hime did not cross it. This show seemed promising early on with an OP sequence that promised a wide variety of characters. But by the end of the episode the cast seemed more like a matter of quantity than quality. We never really get to know either of the main characters. Instead, Satou takes notice of Hime's tremendous boobs. And the plot didn't make all that much sense either. Hime seems pretty indifferent to Satou's feelings when she announces that she'll be leaving--tommorrow--but is thrilled when he follows her through the gateway. The prince she was supposed to marry is apparently perfectly OK with him claiming her instead. He tosses Satou a sword to fight a giant monster that bursts into the throne room, and Satou makes short work of it. It's unclear if he and Hime are really married, though she enters a sauna with him naked. And the ED sequence is basically an opportunity for us to oogle a number of scantily clad girls. It seems like fanservice, rather than interesting characters or an engaging story was what the makers were counting on to attract viewers. As a result, I found this show to be hokey and difficult to take seriously, and I doubt if I will watch any more.
