Shuranosuke Sakaki is a masterless samurai with a razor-sharp katana and a cold-hearted personality. Whenever you see the mark of two crossed scythes on his back, death is sure to follow. Because of his exceptional swordsmanship, Shuranosuke is hired by the Nakura Clan to rescue Princess Mayu from the Seki Ninja. In this mission, he must use his full potential to survive the Seki Ninja's notorious henchmen.

I'm mainly familiar with Sword for Truth thanks to Manga Entertainment's rather misleading marketing of this as something related to the more successful anime release of Ninja Scroll. This OVA uses the aesthetics of Japanese chambara films and a thin plot as an excuse to feature unstoppable ronin Shuranosuke violently cutting down his foes in various gory ways to rescue the captive princess of a Japanese lord from a clan of ninjas. With only 50 minutes to tell its story, Sword for Truth opts to rush through its events and just relish in the gory violence and occasional sex scenes offered up from its premise. The animation for this isn't all too impressive either, considering the limited animation employed throughout this title's run. In short, this baby's only worth your time if you relish the ultra-violence offered up from many late 80s to early 90s anime films and OVAs.
