In the year 2050, a young engineer named Derrida Yvain is famous thanks to his invention, "Autonomous Machine DZ". However, Derrida and his co-worker Nathan discover a flaw in DZ and attempt to report it to their boss at Rebuild, a manufacturing company. Their observations are ignored and the next day, unknown forces attack them. Derrida escapes inside a cold sleep machine but doesn't awaken for a whole decade. He awakens to find the world ravaged by a war fought by his inventions. He decides to seek out Nathan's daughter Mage and protect her at all costs.

I cannot really say that anything about episode one of RErideD thrilled me or seemed truly original. No questions which I want to know the answers of were raised. Instead, the premise seemed pretty familiar: a conspiracy among the corrupt rich to silence a whistle-blower who has detected faults with radical new technology. It may be too soon to pass judgment, but I am not very optimistic about how this will play out. Perhaps the problem is that the most unique element of the story--time travel--is barely employed before the episode ends (and I easily guessed what the shocking scene protagonist Derrida sees after awakening was). Also, just how he underwent the time leap was confusing. It seemed like he just wandered into the 'Cryostasis' facility completely by accident, since he seemed to be surprised by what happened afterwards. A coincidence like that seems extremely unlikely and unconvincing. In episode two we meet some new characters, but none of them seemed to have much personality to me, nor did Derrida himself. It looks like the crucial issue will be searching for a computer chip which Derrida gave to Mage, his friend's daughter, ten years ago. I wish this show was just a little better or just a little worse, because that way I could decide whether to watch it or not with more confidence that I was making the right choice. The apocalyptic future scenario is kind of intriguing, but I have seen few signs that this show will be noteworthy.
