This Osamu Tezuka short has some social commentary to it as Mermaid criticizes Japan's rigid societal standards stripping the populace of individuality, represented by the young man in Mermaid imagining an encounter with a mermaid and being arrested for his thoughts. There are no spoken lines in Mermaid, as the visuals depict the story of the man living out his fantasy and being stripped of his imagination when arrested for expressing "nonsense". The designs of characters and settings look simplistic and like stick figures, though are a little more detailed. The dark background color used for the visuals does have the setback of clashing with the drawn lines of character designs, which usually make it hard to tell what is going on with onscreen movements. Still, this is a decent short to look into if you are an enthusiast of Osamu Tezuka's works or animation in general.
