32 year old Dark Soldier Dariel has served the Demon King's army for all of his adult life. It comes as a shock when he is ignominiously dismissed by the Four Generals that command it. They consider him 'dull' and are contemptuous of his inability to use magic, which is what distinguishes Demons from Humans. While wandering in the wilderness Dariel saves a girl, Malika, from a giant ape. As a token of gratitude her father, the guildmaster of a small town, invites him to become an adventurer.

In general, I enjoy isekai anime. The notion of bringing the scenarios of video games to life opens up countless possibilities for anime plots. It creates an envelope which can be expanded in countless ways.

...which is precisely why I hate isekai series like this one. This show makes little or no attempt to tread new ground. It is rife with sterotypes--Dariel can't use 'magic' but his 'aura' (pretty much another word for 'magic') is fantastic. He is ejected from a high-and-mighty organization for supposedly being mediocre, but will clearly prove them wrong. He is attracted to the well-endowed girl Malika. But nothing really novel happens. It is another 'gag isekai' series--one with a sort of a joke built into its premise--what would a person do if they were basically fired in a sword-and-sorcery world? But as far as I can tell, it makes little attempt to expand on that premise. It's almost as if some sort of gag was required, but it was little more than a formality and is quickly forgotten afterwards. This seemed completely lukewarm at best. Maybe the real problem is that the central gag that the show is built around wasn't particularly funny. OK, what sort of hilarious trouble might an unemployed soldier find himself in in this videogame-like world? The premise is sort of a promise of creditable jokes to come, but here they didn't. I don't think I laughed even once during episode one; did I even smile? This is another of those show which I bet if I had been presented with the premise I could have done a better job of writing it myself. Am I supposed to spend my precious time watching a show as weak as that? As I watched I was trying to imagine where this would go--would Malika's father try some sly tactic to persuade him to marry her once his amazing powers became evident? No, she just has big boobs and the plot remains as simple as possible. You almost feel that a good deal of effort must have been expended to prevent this show from being fun, because surely a fresh idea or two must have occured to the writers, wouldn't they?

If you're going to come up with a new premise, at least put a little effort into it.
