Unfortunately, once the bizarre premise of this show had been explained to us and the comedy that would sprout from it got underway, I found that it wasn't really all that funny. Gags like the girl who is actually an alien spaceship pilot who has crashlanded on earth needs to fart didn't cut it. There's a fairly complex set of relationships between these characters: the alien has been using a sort of mind control to keep the others from realizing that she isn't really human, and the psychic knows this, because she can read minds (but not male minds), and the ninja has to be on guard for fellow ninja sent to kill her, and the boy is here because his twin sister wanted to switch places. But it didn't seem to me that the jokes were nearly as complex. I doubt if I could write them, but I sense that the jokes in this show might potentially have played off of these weird, ridiculous relationships, and they would be better if they had. But instead we get pretty average fare (and some of the stuff about the alien's bodily functions sort of grossed me out). Maybe if the characters had greater depth some sort of drama could compensate for the shortage of laughs, but I am not seeing any sign of that. Basically, an ambitious premise demands ambitious writing and jokes, but we do not get them. Writing comedy must be one of the most underappreciated arts, because so very few people can really do it well.
