Not very funny. How else can I better summarize my impressions of episode one of this show? The jokes are so weak, so formulaic, that it's almost as if there were no jokes at all. When I first saw Futaba, I was sure that she was a child getting ready for school before her parents had gotten out of bed, but no, she's a full-grown woman and has a years' experience at her company. Her personality consists of the fact that she's very short and therefore insecure, while Takeda's personality consists of him being confident, boisterous, and protective of her. That's about all there is to these two characters. At one point I paused to read a subtitle and noticed Futaba staring at her co-worker, Sakurai, and I knew that the next thing Futaba would say would be a comment on Sakurai having bigger boobs than she does. And I was right. Do women in Japan really think like that, or is it repeatedly tacked-on to anime for the amusement of teenage boys? You would think that the average Japanese woman assumes that her only chance at finding happiness is if some man takes an interest in her, which is sad. Perhaps another problem is that despite the premise of this show, spelled out in the title itself, one could do much worse than Takeda as a senior at work. He doesn't seem to be contemptuous of Futaba or women in general, and about the worst thing he ever does to her is mess up her hair while patting her on the head. He goes out of his way to cheer her up after she makes a serious blunder. So, what is the real problem here? It might be that Futaba actually is attracted to Takeda, which was suggested by a comment she makes in this episode, but he sees her as little more than a child and therefore isn't interested. But again, the biggest problem is definitely that this show is not very funny, and I doubt if any sort of romance that is intriguing enough to compensate will develop.
