As I watched episode one of Tatoeba-, I quickly noticed a problem and tried to put it into words in my notes: 'Set to meet a low standard' 'Simplistic' 'Not living up to potential' 'Unambitious' 'Always aiming low; going for the cheapest, easiest little laughs' After a good night's sleep, I think the problem has crystalized in my mind: Everybody's an idiot. Or, more accurately, everybody has a simplistic, 2-dimensional personality. Nobody is truly clever and smart. Maybe that was meant as a joke, but it's not funny. in fact, very little seemed funny to me. There were no LOL jokes--OK, Lloyd is actually super strong, ha ha (not). Nor did the story intrigue me at all. The plot seemed like the bare bones of a story--just the skeleton, the absolute minimum framework necessary, but I got the impression that little or no effort had been made to make it noteworthy. The title had suggested an amusing premise, and I often enjoy Isekai anime, but in this case it seemed that the premise was going to waste. (I'm guessing that a 'starter town' is the place people beginning to play a MMORPG find themselves when they are weak and only have basic equipment and skills). One of the first things I noticed was that character designs are pretty crude, and a show which didn't put much effort into character design probably won't put much into plot development either. I must have somewhat higher standards than the average anime viewer, but Tatoeba- seemed like a major let-down to me. I don't see any point in watching any more.
