A private eye named Goku investigates a number of suicides of police officers. When he encounters the woman responsible for those suicides, he is caught by her supernatural powers and the only way to survive was to stab his own eye out. Now replaced with a cybernetic implant that allows him to access nearly every computer on earth and equipped with a powerful rod that can extend to quite a length, he resumes the investigation only to find out it falls deeper into the net of underground rulers.

Midnight Eye Goku mostly gets by on its style in exploring freelance detective Goku trying to thwart a weapons dealer and the mysterious suicides of detectives trying to investigate the man. The OVA has enough time to tell its story, albeit simple in premise, as more about the dealer and suicides gets revealed, though the OVA never does get into who and why Goku was provided with his cyber-eye. Goku's actions are an enjoyable romp in the second half of the film when he acquires his cyber-eye and staff, which make for the film's highlights. 1980s action anime fans are likely to be interested in the stylish sci-fi romp that Midnight Eye Goku has to offer.
