Squid girl? After reading the synopsis, I found myself snickering at the possibilty of this one being a seriously funny watch. It "was" amusing but that's about it.... Art, Animation & Character Designs Artwork was on the good side.... not bad at all. Squid girl herself was super kawaii. Actually, most the characters were kawaii. Character designs were well done. Artwork and animation was your typical and nothing out the ordinary. Music The OP was just too cute for me. I'm not too much into the cutsie stuff but somehow I found it sorta..... cute. It fit the series perfectly well. The ED was more on the softer side.... almost a lullaby. Not my flavor. Series and Episode Story This was on the uber kawaii side. Squid girl was just too cute! Not a whole lot happens here really. Rather, it's mostly silly antics, a handful of funny moments and that wraps it up. The plot itself was pretty much done away with at episode one..... after squid girl realizes her conquest of the humans would prove to be a challenge. Nevertheless, this series does have it's amusing moments. Overall, it's a fun series to watch and that's about it. If season two comes out, I might be enclined to take a peak but nothing more really. (Watch+) (All episodes watched): This is a silly show without any fanservice; I just wish the jokes had been funnier. Apparently, including the word 'squidly' in the subtitle of almost every sentence that Squid Girl speaks really is authentic from the original; I had had my doubts. I really can't think of a whole lot to say about this show; it is modestly amusing but doesn't seem to live up to it's potential. Such an odd premise needed better jokes, or a bit more craziness, to truly score. But there is nothing much to complain about either. Maybe if Squid Girl had realized that her planned conquest of the land world wasn't going to happen and attempted to adapt instead. Or if her personality had grown a little--like making a genuine friend or two. Otherwise, the story gets tiresome at times. One thing that may help is that a number of new characters have appeared, one per episode perhaps. I guess the series as a whole is largely 'filler' material without a serious ongoing plot, and the episodes could be watched in scrambled order without much of a problem. As such, it's hard to recommend taking the trouble and cost of renting it. That's kind of a pity, because you can't help liking Squid Girl. But I couldn't help feeling that the amusement which I got was stretched a little thin. Judging from the 'Viewed' number (107 as of Jan. 15), Squid Girl wasn't all that popular.
