Shinigami no Ballad basically features Momo and her cat familiar Daniel in episodic plots where they are tending to personal problems of the living that are associated with death. Despite this shaky subject matter, the stories are mostly light-hearted as the characters involved in each episodic plot are either considering death as an escape to their personal problems or they are getting over the recent personal loss of a loved one. Some of the stories are actually quite good telling meaningful lessons about valuing one's life and cherishing the memories of lost loved ones. Still though, the stories are entirely self-contained (with exception to one character from the first episode returning in a later episode) lacking any linearity and with very little fleshed out about Momo and Daniel as they are only around to serve as moral guides to the conflicted character of each episode in this series. Despite this though, Shinigami no Ballad does make for a relaxing title to check out as it does offer up some meaningful lessons to appreciate about living.

Every once in a while you'll come across an anime that does nothing more than tell simple little tales of simple little characters in their simple daily lives. As "simple" as it sounds... sometimes, even this entertaining to watch and might even put a smile on your face by the end of the show. This is one such anime.

Art, Animation & Character Design
The art and animation was your typical and average style. Nothing special really. The framerate was pretty good and seemed higher than normal... meaning it, the animation was smoother and cleaner. As for character designs, some of the females seemed more 'kawaii' than the average. Momo, our protagonist was kawaii.... unlike your typical incarnation of "Death".

Music
Not bad. The opening theme song was soft and.... in english? Ya, that was surprising. It was good enough for me to sit and listen to... which is really rare for me. The rest of the songs... throughout the episodes were hardly noticeable.

Episode and Series Stories< br /> For the most part, this anime is pretty slow and docile. Nothing much really happens and the episodes themselves didn't have any complex stories... in fact, the plot (if you want to call it that) was lacking excitement and was almost.... boring. What kept it from "being" boring is the fact that the episode stories were somewhat fun to watch, I mean, they were simple little one-dimensional stories that didn't amount to anything and were really light hearted. There were some few small laughs and chuckles now and then.

Overall, it's worth a watch. There's nothing special here, but what there is..... a smile, a chuckle and maybe a nice warm feeling or two at the end of each episode.
