In a land of monsters and magic, the evil Shadow Lord is plotting to invade Deltora and enslave its people. All that stands against him is the magic Belt of Deltora with its seven gems of great and mysterious power. When the gems are stolen and hidden in dark, terrible places throughout the kingdom, the Shadow Lord triumphs and Deltora is lost.

In secrecy, with only a hand-drawn map to guide them, two unlikely companions set out on a perilous quest. Determined to find the lost gems and rid their land of the tyrant, they struggle towards their first goal - the sinister Forests of Silence.

Based on a popular young adult's book series by the Australian Author Emily Rodda (sorry, but I have not heard of this series) which tells the story of three adventurers who are on a quest in a land of ancient magic and sorcery, seeking seven gems to restore an artifact that holds the promise of a power strong enough to defeat the evil Shadow Lord.

With the flavor of a classic epic that reminds me of Roudosu Tou Senki: Eiyuu Kishi Den (Record of Lodoss War), this is a tale of a young ring-bearer, who along with his stalwart companions, finds himself on a dangerous quest to defeat the evil lord and save the land of light. No, that is not it. I think that I am getting my stories mixed up.

Legends tell of how Adin forged a silver belt designed to hold seven gems and of how he used it to bind the seven human tribes into one people. Over time, the symbol of the unity of the people was slowly forgotten, and it ended up as an ancient treasure tucked into a dusty collection case. It was then that Dark Lord struck – breaking the belt into a handful of pieces and casting the seven gems to different corners of the world. With its power broken, he then attacked the castle of the king and began to openly spread his influence in the world.

Sixteen years after the fall of the Kingdom of the seven tribes, a young Lief returns to the home of his adoptive father to learn that Adin’s belt has been reforged and that he is actually the son of the fallen king. As one of the last surviving decendents of Adin, Lief has the power to use the belt to find the seven scattered gems, and the destiny to use its power to confront and defeat the evil lord.

Does this sound a bit too cliché? Perhaps! But there is a lot of fun in the retelling of a classic story, especially if it is done well.
