I have found that, while I was viewing Kiss x Sis, I noticed that the See Index Log has been spelt Se(e <- not there) Index Log See is losing one e so it says Se Index Log , which is the same for everything. Nothing to worry about, there isn't any viruses or spywears and what not but its just a slight encounter i have discovered and thought i should bring it to attension for the owner'(s), of this website.

I'll take this chance to mention as well that the 'Todo' and 'Bugs' links are still broken.

Note: we might want to put a space between 'To' and 'do' so it doesn't cause any confusion to newcomers.

Hey Xeno ... about the server hiccups ... have you thought about just deleting any duplicate or erroneous entries? It should be one of the three option icons to the right of the forum text boxes.

Also I have discovered that, on the Bondage section, the Anime named "Daraku" is experiencing a total problem...

System error

error: DBD::mysql::st execute failed: Subquery returns more than 1 row at /opt/perl/site_lib/5.8.8/DBIx/Abstract.pm line 339.

raw error

( Is what comes up when you click on it ), this will be easy to fix. I've done it before. Like i said, there's nothing majour like a Virus and/or SpyWare in this case but its just a teeny problem that will need fixing.

You should check it out. It might be a mistake, but i wouldn't let my guard down and let it pass by me.

Yeah, I thought of that already. The only thing is I shouldn't have to do that if we could just figure out why it's happening (only to me so far).

I'm sure Rebecca is working on it right this moment. (positive thinking)

Hey Jordan ...

I noticed that you replaced the image for Kiss_X_Sis. Could you pls help me understand why you feel the image that you posted is better than the image that was originally posted?

Typically we try not to post single image snaps from a series. It is just not a good use of the image space alloted by this site. So we try to created multiple snap-shot images this (such as merger of three images or perhaps even a collage of images (such as this merged thigh to head pan shot)

And of course, we try to choose an image that introduces the main characters and gives some sense of what the series is about. One image is worth a thousand words.....

I actually created the original kissXsis image, which was pulled from the series web site and then heavily manipulated using a photo-chop utility. I selected it because it introduced the main characters (the boy and his two sisters) and gave a good feel of the series.

I still have the original image file, but I would like to hear what your thoughts are.

But honestly, I dont care about nicknames, why should I ? i'm sticking with this one since it's my name and there isn't even one good reason not to have it. But i've found seventeen problems with this site within the past hour. It's really bad at encountering problems. So the least you could do is praise ME for the work im doing since I do it for every site I go on. My friend won't be using this anymore so don't think the image changing will happen again, but I still have to agree with my friend that I dont really like the feel to a fan art. It's not got the feel to it, because when I came across Kiss x Sis it looked bad because of the image but then Xenoknight my mate said it was good, so im going to complain about this. Stuff like that need better images. I'm trying to improve things but I didnt change no image but looked way better if we kept the images my friend did but that is up to you guys but still it made it look awfull when it deserved so much more!. That is how I feel about this bad situation. This site needs to be fixed up pronto. I could do it but i dont really have any permission. I love this site though so im doing my best so if you cant respect that then I dont think you have the right to talk to me like that, arn't i right?

So Jan-Chan, this is the situation... I like the fan art you did it was good, but I think an Anime deserves to have its real inside look and not fan art so it shows what the character ACCTUALY look like. The thing you made made it look like it was a colored Manga looking Anime. So i wasn't fussed on watching untill Knight turned the tables around and shown me how great it ACCTUALY was...

Oh, so you are one of Xeno's friends.

I just read a news article about botnet links being embedded in JPGs. So by just posting a JPG file to a web site would expose anyone visiting that web-page to a Trojan Virus attack.

Having someone pop up from 'nowhere' and then begin posting JPGs got me concerned. At some point, we may have to restrict access to the posting JPGs. Maybe on a permitted-permission level or perhaps that if you post 25+ reviews, then you get the rights to post JPGs too. We have had some incidents in the past of 'creative people' defacing images or tying to post PORNO snaps to MIKOMI, but that was never enough for us to change our JPG-posting-policy.

So my challenge was something that a moderator or site senior would do. Ask Xeno/Steven when you see him next. He came crashing into our site and caused a bit of ruckus while trying to learn the local-site-rules. It is only made more difficult in that the rules are not posted anywhere. But this is typical of a casual posting site. It seems like you can do anything, and then suddenly you step over a hidden line and everyone jumps in to give a HOOT!!. And even our few rules can be changed if enough site-seniors feel strongly enough to make a case.

Now, your pen_name or logon_name... Many of us do cross postings to other anime review sites and forums. Such as the TokyoTosh forum, ANIDB forums or the AnimeSuki Forums. If you visit these sites, you might come across our user_names in the discussion threads. So a fun and distinctive nick_name is a good start if you are going to step into the anime forum/review sites.

You're EXTREMELY wronge in whatt you just said. Trojan or not or any other type of malicious software can atach itself to ANYTHING remember that : "ANYTHING"! : Even if it is a .Gif file or an .Att file it will be a file eather way. So what you are saying is if a symple JPG, JPEG, etc. file is unable to be uploaded, then i can say that your saying than NOTHING can be uploaded. It is the same perspective one way or another no matter which way you look at it. EVERYTHING on the computer is a FILE. A symple file (anyone) is a file which is a target for viruses and other malicious software of its own, being eather a worm or a normal virus or a trojan virus etc. etc. it will be dangerous. Dont tell me im wronge since i've already got every possible knowledge to do with protection from malicious software over the computer and internet. I've gotten rid of tons of Trojan horse's for all my mates even a BSOD ( Blue Screen Of Death ), because some people are so stupid that they dont know the real dangers of viruses these days. Esspecialy about what they can do to your computer in different ways heh... Trojan = Worm which messes with your registry (Main computer files which can cause nearly everything to corrupt and be unusable). Virus = Infection which will normally just take you to bad sites ( normaly a rouge virus scanner website con ), and will say you're computer has Trojan Horse (something) so on, and so on, and get you to download it when you dont even have that stuff and will give it to you once you download it. I know SO MUCH about this kind of stuff i can keep going on forever. But i will stop now, so i must tell you NO MATTER WHAT it doesnt matter what you do or what file it is neather being a JPG file ANYTHING can get a trojan or any other stuff. I SCAN EVERYTHING I SAVE TO MY COMPUTER AND DOWNLOAD FIRST so there would be no worries with me since i use AVG the best virus protection software up to date. Including McCafe. SO everything you just said was wronge by there, and yes i am XenoKnight's friend thank you very much. So i hope we can get along well, let me settle this argument by saying its over since it is no point in carrying on when i have an answer to everything to do with protection ;-), heh and saying that i think i would be fit to be a MODERATOR under the PROTECTION of this website lol. I can solve any problem to anything with numberous of solutions.

Yes, i am defenantly qualified to be a moderator if you wanted me to (Highly doubtedly), because i can solve any problem with a computer <3. So why this conversation started i dont know we moved on from symple picture uploades to viruses because you had to bring something up like that. God give me strength...

I'll just say right now that I assume no responsibility for Jordan's actions. He likes to find small errors and fix them, but after just signing up, he went a little too far. None of all those posts after Site Mistake Incounters (Post #3613) were required. It was all completely unnecessary and it isn't the way to start off a good reputation.

Just chill for a second there Jordan. This site is run with respect and consensus. Agreeing and Disagreeing is how we do things. Just ask before you do something and we'll call a vote or something. Try not to act on your own and we will consider every single one of your requests. Leave all this error and virus stuff alone for a while and let Rebecca deal with it how they see fit. Every thing will work out just fine...

Oh ... Forbin and DD....

I did a bit more research on the Botnet Code Hiding as JPEG Images and YES!! The threat is emerging and not yet widespread, but I judge it as being real.

While JE was one of Xeno's friends, it easily could have been someone with a more malicious intent. Let me give some thought to this threat and monitor this situation a bit more. I may need to request your support to approach Rebecca and request some restrictions be placed on posting JPGs to this site.

The last thing in the world that we want is for MIKOMI to regarded as an infested anime fansite. (did you hear that a kid's site at PBS.ORG was hacked and infested with malware?)

I'm not going overboard, im just saying the truth. Also I only opened this topic because I wanted to point out SLIGHT mistakes, and nothing more. Also on top of that I find it a little dumb if your going to stop JPG images since any type of image file can be waiting to infected... anything can be infected remember. Also what do you mean ruckus? i'm just getting my point of view out and my knowledge to someone who brought the conversation UP. Then so, i did nothing wronge, KThxBye <3.

Your point of view came across crystal clear, don't worry about that (lol). Truth or not, it's just a little much after just signing up is all. The main reason Jan-chan says ruckus is because your causing a commotion (good or bad - doesn't matter) on your first day. It's no big deal really I suppose.

Your vast computer knowledge will most certainly help us out in the future. Who knows, Rebecca might promote you to the site technician when they are not around. It will only come with time after you grow and learn more with Mikomi. It's going to be a rough ride so I hope your ready (LOL).

Another thing about all the issues you've found - make a list. Bring them up one at a time and let Rebecca deal with it. There are several things on their list already (reason for the Todo link at the top - that conveniently happens to be broken at the moment) that they plan to take care of as soon as they can.

From my point of view, whoever does the most (both in terms of quality and quantity) constructive work here at Mikomi should have the most say. I see Rebecca as the top ranker since they created this site in the first place; however, my understanding is that they doesn't have quite as much interest in it as they once did. Since Jan-chan does more than everyone else combined to keep things in order and up-to-date here, I generally feel I should defer to them. My attitude towards page images is that if it's a page I created myself I'm free to select whatever reasonable image I like, but if somebody else (usually Jan-chan) created it, I should keep my hands off. If a change really seems necessary, I would probably post a forum message suggesting it. I don't think it's accurate to call the images Jan-chan usually selects "fanart"; I believe they are almost always artwork created by the anime studios themselves as a form of advertising. The thought used to occur to me that frames from the anime itself might give a better impression of what to expect, but I've come to like this promotional artwork as well. I would say that since Jordan has barely arrived here, they need to build up some credibility (by posting reviews, helping with computer problems, etc) before they start overruling the choices made by long-term members.

A bot hiding its commands in the form of a JPEG file does not mean that this JPEG file contains virus code, or that computers can be infected via JPEG images. Only if you're already infected by said bot's virus code the content of that file has any meaning (telling this bot what particular harm it should do after hijacking the computer, such as being an URL of some server to be attacked by all computers that are controlled by this bot), and it's the (already running) bot virus that requests this JPEG file (and is the only one to understand its content), not you surfing the WWW with your web browser. The file format being JPEG might happen to fool some security (antivirus) software into not checking this file for known virus patterns - but as this JPEG file doesn't contain the virus anyway the antivirus software could only detect the data (i. e. the URL mentioned above), and this data alone doesn't necessarily indicate any wrongdoing, so the antivirus software can't really have a chance to smell danger (even more so as it already failed to protect you from the bot virus...).

There are in fact rumors about viruses being transported in the form of JPEG images. But JPEG images aren't "executed" on a client machine, they are interpreted by software already installed on this machine (the JPEG interpreter of your operating system, your browser, your mail client etc.). If this JPEG interpreter code happens to be buggy (meaning a particular security flaw in the Windows system etc.) then it may be possible to make this interpreter crash while displaying a JPEG image (by sending a JPEG image with some format error, to cause an overflow in the interpreter or whatever) and then erronenously treat the JPEG image as code to be executed on the client machine, thus causing the virus to be activated. Which should explain why this particular virus would not infect a system if it were transported in, say, a GIF or PNG file as it would rely on this particular bug in the JPEG interpreter (which isn't executed while your browser displays a GIF or PNG image). There might of course be a security flaw within a GIF or PNG interpreter of your operating software as well... it's just that each virus needs a particular weakness to be able to hijack a system, and that a JPEG virus would have to rely on a particular weakness in the JPEG interpreter and a GIF virus would have to rely on a particular (but most likely different) weakness in the GIF interpreter.

As for CAR being a potential target of a "JPEG virus", note that JPEG images uploaded to CAR as series images aren't displayed on the client machine the way they were uploaded - they are automatically rescaled by Rebecca's server software which will transform any virus code within a JPEG image to whatever pixel equivalent the rescaled image requires, thus effectively removing the virus from the image. (So if any computer were to be infected by a virus then it would actually be Rebecca's server in case the virus were able to find a security flaw in Rebecca's rescaling software...) It is different though with images uploaded to CAR as episode images because these are not run through the rescaling tool - these images will in fact be sent to the visitors just like they were uploaded (unless Rebecca does some transformation / virus check on these during their upload process that I'm not aware of, as their upload script might effectively work as antivirus software in this particular situation).

DEVIL knows alot more than Chan does (No offence), they are very correct in what they are saying like what I did... although it's not just an JPEG, JPG, or whatever the situation is EVERY SINGLE thing CAN be INFECTED. So there you go, and yes XenoKnight is much easier to talk to atleast they are polite and i accept that. I agree then but only with you but i also disagree with the other dude, who will stick up for Chan (even though with their posts, reviews and such) it shouldn't matter how popular someone is, it's how protective and how much they are cooperating to protect the site like I am. Also yes, that would be good XenoKnight if i was promoted by: Rebecca. I will be honoured to keep this site under control and what not.

I'll be a great service to you all, so i'll be in you're care :).

Hey Jordan,

Since I showed you Kiss×sis OVA, why not write your first review on it. I want to see what you have to say about it (LOL). Think of it as your first step to building that trust level I've been mentioning.

Also, think about writing your notes/personal page in full. Tell the world why you like what you like and all about yourself. Go crazy with it! Then people will know immediately what kind person you are and what anime types you prefer. Knowing you, your bound to have instant fans... (^_^)

Well I dont have a clue what has happened to it lol. But that error is pretty big and went to test out by adding the series to this website (because when I searched for it, nothing came up strange huh? ), and it ALSO came up when I was adding it, but now I wont since you just shown me it is already up, but damn it is huge.

there are moments when the site glitches for no real reason. Don't worry about it too much as it is very rare when it does happen.

"Wide character in subroutine entry" means that Jordan was using a "wide character" as part of their search string, i. e. a character that isn't plain ASCII but Unicode, and the search routine at CAR isn't fit to handle such strings.

To reproduce the issue, try a search for any anime name in Kanji, such as ?????? (this is "Kampfer" in Japanese). The effect is part of the search process, not part of the anime page display. And searching for "Kirarin Revolution" doesn't cause the error as the search string is plain ASCII now.

As the culprit appears to be http://cpansearch.perl.org/src/JSWARTZ/Cache-Cache-1.06/lib/Cache/FileBackend.pm (a CPAN module, i. e. not something that Rebecca coded by themselves), and this third party module has last been modified in the year 2005, it might require questioning the use of this module for fixing the issue.

Then again, it would surprise me to find that searching for Kanji names has never been tried before at this site. So maybe Rebecca changed something in the server configuration that affects character coding in search forms, with the result that the coding of the search string is different now than it was before (thus causing an issue in FileBackend.pm)?

While I'm at it, a note on the problem Jordan reported at http://anime.mikomi.org/forum/showpost.html?topic=415#3602 above about Daraku (an issue that is still there):

The error message being "Subquery returns more than 1 row" makes me think that the issue is being caused by some duplicate entry for this particular anime in some database table of CAR (and the routine accessing said table requires a unique result of that database query, such as the unique entry for an anime). That's why the problem is limited to this particular anime entry only.

To fix this, Rebecca probably needs to just find this duplicate entry and delete it manually (i. e. no software change required), which might be easy knowing the anime ID "1797" causes the effect. And while doing this, Rebecca might want to do a query for non-unique entries in that table in order to find other animes affected by this problem.

Then again, it was Rebecca's software that allowed the creation of this duplicate entry in the first place, so it might be interesting to find out how this entry came into existence, in order to prevent this issue from happening again. (Such as: Shouldn't the anime ID be a unique key of the table in question?)

Jeez. What the hell is up with all that code. That is just one big hot mess. I'm sure if Rebecca was still around, they would enjoy deciphering this one.

What was your title anyway? If it is Little Monica's Story, then I'll fix the other Japanese titled ones.

Hummm.... please don't...

Little Monica's Story deals with an underage or LOLI hentai anime story.

And yes.. it is listed both in ANIDB and ANN, but then there was that man in Virginia who was caught in a sting over such material.

Post the series if you want to.... I kinda know about it, but I have never seen it. And as such I will not be able to post a review of it.

Not long ago, there was a time when URLs pointing to a series at CAR contained the number of the series only, not the name.

And then, Rebecca changed the code on their server to make those URLs more self-explanatory (so that using them as links would appear more intuitive to the user), containing both the number and the name of the anime.

Which unfortunately requires the anime's primary name to be compliant to the requirements of a valid URI, i. e. not contain special characters (from outside of a certain ASCII subset).

Thus Rebecca's software has to URLencode each and every special character within an anime name in order to compose a valid URL from it.

Which - according to the error message posted above - doesn't work correctly when the anime's primary name contains kanji characters. Apparently this aspect of their software was never tested.

So it seems as if it was Rebecca's most recent change on the server that caused this additional problem, not their absence.

The whole URL and domain naming concepts of the WWW have long been based on the whole thing being an American idea being used by other countries as well, and thus playing by American rules (such as the range of valid characters that are supported by browsers, domain name servers and whatnot). Recently the naming universe has become more internationalized - special characters have been allowed for use in URLs and even in domain names (an example can be found here, about using ".??" ("nihon") as top-level domain for the country "Japan" instead of ".jp"). So maybe Rebecca's precautionary measures (that aren't fully supported by the "Escape.pm" module that they installed into the "/opt/perl/site_lib" directory, thus probably being a third party module they took from ↗Cpan - but note how this module suggests using "uri_escape_utf8" instead!) might even turn out to be no longer necessary in the near future, given the permanent upgrades of both browsers and domain name server software and the URI ultimately being replaced by the ↗Internationalized Resource Identifier.

Since you're being so gracious, Rebecca:

How about looking into some broken links:

1) 'To do' list link (might also want to put a space between them as well ('To do' instead of Todo)
2) 'Bugs' link
3) What Jordan mentions in 3596
