| Tanaka asks Kasukabe if she'd be willing to cosplay for Genshiken at the upcoming School Festival. The answer is "no" (to put it mildly). A knock at the door signals the arrival of a strange girl who asks if she can observe the club meeting. Saki takes great pains to make certain the girl knows what she's doing, and to make it clear that she is not a Genshiken member herself. The girl introduces herself as freshman Ohno Kanako, just back from America. Saki warns her that the boys may try to talk her into cosplaying, but Kanako doesn't mind--she's done it before. Tanaka volunteers to create a costume for her, and enlists Saki to take Kanako's measurements. The three go to Kanako's room, where she asks them to wait outside while she quickly tidies things up.
