Genshiken - 2: Comparative Classification of the Modern Youth Through Consumption and Entertainment

Title:Genshiken
Episode:2: Comparative Classification of the Modern Youth Through Consumption and Entertainment
Synopsis
Saki-chan has persuaded Kohsaka to go shopping with her in Harajuku while all the other Genshiken members (except the Chairman) have gone to nearby "Akiba", the fabulous mother lode of electronics, anime and video games. The club members make the excursion as a sort of welcome for new member Sasahara, who gets a crash course on effective techniques for shopping in the area. Madarame clearly knows all the best spots for finding just what they are after, and doing it in the time available. After Kugayama complains about the problems his stuttering is causing him, Sasahara suggests they go to a karaoke. Kohsaka, meanwhile, remains thoroughly oblivious to the numerous hints Saki-chan is dropping. The next day she comes to the club room to ask about the significance of some disturbing magazines she found at Kohsaka's place...

Still funny the second time around (as I rewatched the episode to take notes and save images)! Just the narrator's introduction to this episode was hilarious. Oh, man, I love this both humorous and educational stuff. Actually, I read a claim that Genshiken could be considered a documentary of sorts, and is funny because the behavior of otaku are often inherently amusing. Madarame definitely gets most of the good lines, being the most militantly outspoken otaku.
