| While Chiharu is cramming for her university application and the friends are watching photographs of Hokkaido at Makoto's diner, Kyoichi has actually travelled there in his summer holidays. And right after his arrival he literally runs into an attractive blonde girl [image1] who then offers him to take him along on her motorbike [image2].
Kyoichi soon learns this girl is creating and selling wooden carvings. She's jaunty, constantly teasing the naive boy, inventing ever new stories [image3] about her former boyfriend, asking for a commission as his tourist guide, and inviting him to stay at her studio [image4]. But at the same time she can understand him very well, being a fellow artist - and she can read his drawings [image5] in a way Kyoichi couldn't do by himself. Finally she tells him her name - which is "Chiharu"... [image6] | |

The final episode of this series is almost a special feature. So much is different now: Kyoichi is out to leave his past behind, we have a great new intro song ("Hatsukoi" by Imai Yuka), gorgeous landscapes, and HAYASHIBARA Megumi shines as guest star for this episode. But it must be quite stressfull to be together with such a girl... This is a wonderful ending to the series, closing the circle of a full year with its trailer, and using the series' opening song ("Daijobu", by Maeda Aki) for the ending of this final episode. It is a Japanese ending, and that's how it should be. I really like this episode, and to everyone who feels the same I recommend watching Majo no Takkyuubin - you'll see the connection for sure. ==================================== | |
