Beware of spoilers! Stretch: DOMULL definitely has Hawk stuff (genes? body fluids?) in it, but I'm unclear as to whether the Hawks tricked the police into doing this, or if the police did it on their own (to create a sort of anti-Hawk). Or did the police think they were being clever, while the Hawks knew about the plan from the start and were glad to play along? Was the thing that possessed the person a Hawk, just following orders, or was it an unintended offshoot of the experiment? If the former, why would it describe itself as "one of the victims of the monster you defeated"? The fact that it said it was trying to "save my compatriot whose body was used in your hateful experiment" suggests that whatever this thing was, it was acting of it's own free will. Anyway, another question which comes to mind after this episode: will Lum Cheng go after Roy now that he's broken up with Katsumi? Devil Doll: Episode 18: (DOMULL / 別れゆく夜 = Wakare Yuku Yoru = The Night of Separation) Early in this series you thought both Ralph Bowmers and Robert De Vice were no more than also-rans, good enough for maybe one episode. As seen in episode 17, Ralph Bowmers has become essential for Kiddy's fate by now (and vice versa as her life support system saved him), and "Roy" has become quite important for Katsumi as well. Plus there's a subject that had already been touched in episode 2 (!) (where it looked completely irrelevant back then) and will be revived now, to provide the scenario of this DOMULL episode. Actually the story of episode 18 isn't even in the manga but some of its basic ideas are there in chapter 7 which basically covers the events of episodes 19 and 20. Everything will be linked together in the anime, and tiny things may become essential for the outcome of the whole confrontation (for example, episode 10 "XRP-77" about Yuki's past in the Tajima lab may look like a stand-alone complex but you'll learn in time that even this one isn't). The LH are trying to find a weak spot in humankind's defense, and at times the obvious confrontation may not be the one they're actually after, as we've seen in episode 12 already where Rosa's LHs lured the AMP away - to get her a free shot at Rally... Remember that in episode 2 (!) the police already collected LH samples, and Rally complained about that LH which the AMP already defeated having reappeared within the police building? It's clearly the police who wants to become independent from the AMP, which has been a theme throughout the whole series already. The manga (volume 3! This is one of the earliest stories) says: "Girl: Humans are a frightening lot. You even use our body fluids for your own pleasure." (i. e. for Domull production) That girl is certainly a normal LH (of category II, apparently) but it used the dead body of the victim as 'her' disguise. As for the 30 seconds previews at the end of each episode, beware: Preview for episode 19: "clean" in terms of spoilers |
