| Stretch: I was thinking that maybe we were headed into another round of personal, signature episodes when I saw the previews for this one (and the next). Anyway, this was fun. Perhaps now Yuki has someone special to protect from a victory by the Lucifer Hawks. The twist at the end was fun, then lo and behold, there was a twist on the twist! Devil Doll: Episode 16 will be the last true side story of this series. The events there appear to be completely unrelated to the remainder of the story at first but despite causing something that looks like a logical paradox they actually are important for the course of later events as well as earlier (!) events (which you will learn about in episode 25). This episode opens the arc of this series to account for the "Romance" category which will continue for five episodes, with episode 20 "Love" (the only one in red Kanji...) being its fabulous climax. But this isn't the Romance of Love Hina, it's more like the Romance of Video Girl Ai (remember that scene at the glass staircase?) - painful, to say the least. Does Love make you stronger or more vulnerable? At the end of episode 14 when Katsumi and Rally made up with each other, the AMP chief told the girl: "From here on the fight will become much tougher." And that's an understatement, as episode 17 will be the first one to show... we were given time to identify with the AMP members, and now you see what we need that for: To suffer along with them, more than in Shuffle! or Mai-HiME. | |
